Basantapur Durbar Square,Nepal
Basantapur Durbar Square is one of the three Durbar Squares in Kathmandu Valley located in front of the old royal palace of the former kingdom in Kathmandu.It is also listed in UNESCO World Heritage sites.
There are many old buildings,temples and palaces which were built during lichhavi period many hundreds of years ago.Being destroyed by devastating earthquake in 2015, the temples and buildings are being repaired and is still open to tourists throughout the week.
Some important monuments to see in this area are :
The Taleju temple which was built in 1549 A.D by King Mahendra Malla.
The Jagannath temple built in 16th century.
The Kal Bhairab statue built in 17th century.
Kasthamandap , the name of building derived from Kathmandu which is made of single tree.
Nine storyed palace and many more..
The continuous guano bombardment of the pigeons that populate the ancient attics and the beautiful wooden balconies of the residence brings a mesmerising view of the surroundings of that area.
Besides that there is a museum with the antique collections of ancient Shah and Rana rulers. It’s really a nice place for those who wants to explore and lean the ancient history of our Great Nation “NEPAL”.
