Bitmain Announces Antminer S9 Hydro; Water Cooled Miner
Bitmain has announced a new mining hardware device known as Antminer S9 Hydro. The new device features a first-of-its-kind water cooling system that has stable performance and high reliability. In the past, it has launched the Antminer S91, ANTBOX and Z9mini.
Bitmain Presents New Antminer
The new miner will be supporting the SHA256 algorithm. That means that it will be mining virtual currencies such as Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. According to the press release, this is the eighth product released this year.
The miner has a hash rate of 18T and consumes 1728W. With the water cooling system, there is no need to use traditional air-cooled miners. Additionally, it can mine along with a specific power source: the APW5.
Individuals can use the S9 Hydro-Hex water circulation module to dissipate heat. Larger farms can now achieve low noise and high energy saving mining effects.
The press release reads as follows:
“For the first time, Antminer S9 Hydro is adopting the most innovative water cooling design available for heat dissipation. Thanks to the customized and high-precision water cooling module, S9 Hydro can support the direct introduction of outdoor water source that meets the water quality requirements and quickly cool down the computing boards and other components inside the miner.”
The chip temperature difference will be only around 5ºC, something that can improve the stability of the miner.
Antminer S9 Hydro is effective at reducing noise. The water cooling system is able to reduce the internal temperature of the miner and the noise during operation. Compared with air-cooled miners, S9 Hydro can reduce noise up to 20dB.
Mining farms that use an outdoor water source will reduce between 8% and 12% of electricity consumption. Water cooling systems ensure the long-term operation stability.
Furthermore, the S9 Hydro can help with dust proofing and reduce maintenance operations. Indeed, more than 95% of the consumption can be moved externally through the water circulation system. That reduces the air volume required by the miner.
With the latest innovation, the miner avoids dust deposits inside the machine. This effectively decreases the risk of short circuit or corrosion of its components.
