Virtues of the month of Ramadan

1. What is the main purpose of fasting during Ramadan?
- Ramadan is month of blessings and worshipping, people do prayers and help needy people to earn blessings in this month. It is a great month in which both physical and spiritual cleanliness of person is done. In this month fasting is done; people stop eating and drinking from before sunrise till sunset. Fasting is worshipping in Islam, people fast for 30 days. In this month, people stay from wrong doings and other bad things. It purifies the soul of a person and makes physically stronger. Their are more things in it, the taraweeh at night time and layla tul qadar night which is unknown but falls in the odd days of the month and after Ramadan Eid-ul-fitr starts.
2. How many rak'ahs is Taraweeh prayer and what is its importance?
Taraweeh are prayers which are offered in Isha(Urdu) time or night prayers. In Taraweeh the Holy Quran is recited, it depends in how many days you finish the Holy Quran; you can also pray taraweeh without reciting the Holy Quran but normally the Holy Quran is recited in it.
Now, some people do 8 Rak'ahs and some perform 20 Rak'ahs. In our country I have seen both 8 and 20 rakaahs. The importance of taraweeh is that Holy Quran is recited in it and prayer numbers are increased which increases your blessings.
3. What has been said about the virtues of Laylat al-Qadr?
Laylat ul Qadr is a day, odd day in the Ramadan last 10 days; it is undefined that on which day it falls. The Holy Quran was revealed on that day, the reward of layla tul qadr is when you do a good deed so you will be rewarded for that deed as you have done it for 83 years so Muslims try to do good things on that day to be rewarded with many benefits in the hereafter.
4. What are the Sunnah and Etiquette of Sehri and Iftar?
- Sehri and Iftar are timings in which the food is eaten and water or juice is drink to prepare and broke fasting. Sehri is the time before dawn in which Muslims prepare for fasting, and iftar is the time in which fasting is stopped and people start eating. Between them food and drinkable items are forbidden.
