Hmm. Logic will take you from A to B but imagination will take you everywhere.
The first thing that is going to happen is that those about to witness the earth’s sunset would suddenly begin to see it….rise. This would give them a total of about 24 hours of daylight because of the added 12 hours from it rising again.
This reminds me of one of my lecturers recount of some places he visited where they experienced 24hrs sunlight a day.

Oh yeah, your lecturer must have visited one of the countries in the arctic circle. Some of them experience 24 hours of sunlight for about six month.
Countries like Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Canada, Alaska etc. experience the midnight sun as it is called for varying lengths of time. Only the part of the countries that crosses the Arctic circle experiences it though.
Alaska is a state in the US, not a country, sorry about that.
