Turkey - April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day

Today is a very special day for Turkey. April 23 National Day is celebrated with enthusiasm all over our country. Flags are hung on the balconies and windows of houses all over the country. Despite the curfew due to Covid19, the celebration was held again this year.
Why is April 23 important for the Turkish people?
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our Republic, opened the Turkish Grand National Assembly(TBMM) on 23 April 1920 and declared the sovereignty of the Turkish people. In the following years, Atatürk declared April 23 as the holiday of the day and presented it to the children of the world.

Celebration photos I took from my house. First, children passed by bicycles, then cars passed by. There was a convoy of about 500 vehicles. It was incredible. I wish I could show it closer but I have a curfew.
