Introduction

Agriculture is one of the pioneer means of human survival. Agriculture bridges the gap between man and nature. It provides food and livelihood for humans. The term "Agriculture" is not just centered on livestock and crops, it also fascinates lots of environmental, economical, natural, social and human factors to bring about a positive harvest in any field of your agricultural specifications. Birds play very crucial roles in agriculture. They can improve and reduce growth, they can kill pests and also act as one, help in plantation and can as well help in contributing to global food security


Agriculture is a wide field of study which encompasses lots of components, specifications and features in it. But for the purpose of this contest, I will try to center my writing on birds which I will use to give answers to the questions of the contest

What are the functions and roles of birds in agriculture?

Birds play very vital roles in agriculture Which I will discuss in details below;
Birds in general play very vital roles in pest control in crops.
They feed on different insects that damages crops like insects and rodents and this act helps in reducing the purchases of pecticides and worries by farmers.
Birds also contribute to the reproduction process in plants, this is done when the birds feed on the nectars of fruited crops. Once that is done, the pollen grains travels from the upper part of the fruit to the lower part aiding the pollination process in crops
They also help in seed dispersal. This is done unknowingly by birds as the seeds of crops may fall from they hands or mouth as they fly with it and this may lead to the germination of the seed in the fallen area.
Birds also plays very special roles in creating habitats thereby innovating the environment through building of nest and foraging activities.

What crops are most likely to be birds dependent, and why ?

There are several crops that depends on various species of birds for survival. Some are listed below:
1.A specie of bird called the yellow warbler helps to control different pests that attacks coffee plants.
2.In the aspect of pollination, cocoa trees are naturally pollinated by birds thereby leading to the production and yielding of cocoa.
It also helps in dispersing cocoa seeds far and wide which also helps in the production of high quality cocoa.
3.Avocado flowers are also pollinated by a special species of birds like the lesser long-nose bat and the hummingbirds. This also contribute to plantations thereby sustaining the specie of the particular plants in the world.
4.Birds also fights the pests that attacks tomatoes thereby leading to a reduction in need of pesticides
5.They also pollinates rice and maize fruits

How do birds contributes to global food security?

Birds continue to global food security in various ways;
Birds helps to reduce adverse effects of food system to climate change, diseases and pest through the maintenance of ecosystem resilience.
Due to the active control of pests on crop yields and the pollination of crops, birds constitutes to the increase in the yield and quality of crops.
In general, birds contributes to ecosystem services

Briefly discuss the economic value of birds' contribution to agriculture?

There are many economic importance of birds to agriculture.Birds aids ecosystem services of which the estimated value of birds' service to coffee industry is around 1.5 billion annually. Birds also contribute to crop protection thereby enhancing high yield of cross as well as ecotourism.

Conclusion

Birds play very crucial roles and functions in the aspect of agriculture both positively and negatively. Birds are substantial and we should try as humans to conserve birds pollution to help sustain agriculture management
