Animal Activities #10
Hello, my greetings to you anywhere you are. I hope you're all doing great. Welcome to a new week. A shout out to @xkool24 for this animal activities contest weekly. It's really an educative contest. Today, my activities are on Bee.
A bee is an insect from a super family called Apoidea with more than 20,000 species of insects. This insects are from the order Hymenoptera, suborder Apocrita. The familiar Apis (honeybee) and Bombus (bumblebee) are also parts of the order. Bee's body is in three parts: Head with antenna(2), thorax with legs(6), and abdomen.
Bee adults have sizes from 2mm to 4mm with about 0.08-1.6inches. Bee's provide pollen and sometimes honey to their young ones and the females have a few feathered hairs for pollen to cling to.
Bee's depend entirely on flowers for their food and their food consists of nectar and pollen. Male bees have short life and they do not collect pollen nor provide for the young ones. Meanwhile, the female bees carry pollen with their special anatomy structure and also provide for their young ones. Bees gather pollen from different varieties of flowers and the female bees make their own nest because they are solitary and non-social and habit.
Solitary bees make turrets at the nest entrance and the short live as adults. This bees provide food for lava to complete development when the cells are sealed.
Economic Importance of Bees
Bees provide valuable amounts of products like beeswax, honey and royal jelly.
Pollination of crops are done by bees.
Ecological role of Bees
- Bees are the greatest pollinators.
Bees are parts of biodiversity that humans depend on for survival.
Bees are source of resources for research such as biochemical and pharmacological research.
Other characteristics of Bees
Some bees are seriously aggressive in nature.
Some bees are more hardworking than others.
Some bees are intelligent than others.
Some bees are fast and they make sloppy decisions, while the slow ones are careful in making decisions.
Some of bee traits are passed on to the next generation.
I invite @josepha, @saintpaul17 and @yuddie to join this contest.
