Steem-agro Contest: "Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #18"
Hello steemians today will be taking part in this contest hosted in the steem agro community titled basic knowledge in agriculture community of
What do you understand by Climate change |
---|
Climate change is seen as the long term alterations of temperature and weather in a particular place. It is controlled by human activities. Example is the burning of fossil fuels which increases the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
Talk about the effect of climate change in Agriculture
The impact of climate change on agriculture is seen in significant challenges to food productivity.
Effects on Crop Yield
One of the most effective change in climate usually display on crop yields. High temperature can lead to decreasing in crop yields. A good example is rice and wheat ,this kind of crops are particularly sensitive to temperature increase. Extremely high weather events like droughts and flood can lead to simultaneously lead to crop failure in different regions in the world and this could threaten food supply in the world.
Water Scarcity and Irrigation Challenges
Climate change affect water availability when there is increase in high weather temperature it could cause droughts and reduce the availability of water in a particular place or society and it is seen as water scarcity. Also areas which usually experience this kind of situation it may limit them from certain agricultural activities and produce. Also reads that have increasingly CNA consistent rainfall may soul erosion nutrient leaching.
Soil Health and Fertility
Climate change can affect soul fertility, health and productivity because when events like drought take place they kill several nutrients in the ground if not all, because there is no moderate water for them to stay alive in the ground. Also in cases like fertility when there is flood or too much rainfall there will low fertility in the ground for planting because the flood will washout the soil's fertility out to another place thereby making that area less fertile.
Livestock Production
In the area of livestock farming, taking out cattles to feed will be very stressful when there is a period of drought. And also in higher temperatures milk production in cows decrease and the availability of neat also decrease. Another thing is that heat stress not only affects the welfare of animals but also their ability to reproduce. And this can reduce the amount of animals over time.
So in conclusion climate change can lead to formidable challenge to global agriculture through its effect on crop yield, water availability and even soil health and livestock production. And to address all this challenges it will require constant effort form scientists and farmers to help develop sustainable agricultural practices.
Thanks for reading my post I now call on @okere-blessing @ngoenyi @onomzy001 @radjasalam and @suboohi to also take part in this contest
