The best chance I got recently.

Hey, my dear friends, finally I got a chance to watch a lovely film at a Sri Lankan theater after a very long time. We used to watch movies on platforms such as Netflix, YouTube, and television, but this time we went to a Sri Lankan movie theater to see it. Because I can't wait for it without watching so quickly.

It was such a beautiful film, and the lead role was played by my favorite actress. This film was directed by Asoka Handagama, one of the best film directors in Sri Lanka.

This film was released to the Sri Lankan cinema on 30th January 2025, and by February 14th the film had grossed SLR 100 million, the production company confirmed. It is regarded as one of the highest-grossing films in 2025 and Sri Lankan cinema history.

Ha ha.. now you may be wondering what this film is. Yes, it was the very famous film called "Rani," which was directed through a true incident in Sri Lanka.

I have watched many films of Swarna because she is my best actress. Dadayama was the last film I watched on Swarna's.

The film "Rani" is about Richard de Zoysa, who was abducted and murdered on February 18, 1990. In this film, Swarna Mallawarchchi plays the role of Richard de Soysa's mother, Dr. Manorani Sarwanamuththu's character.

The story of Dr. Saravanamuttu and her relentless quest to find justice for her son are the subjects of Asoka Handagama’s film, Rani. I can remember this story well because I was a young girl in those days.

According to the film, Dr. Selvernamutthu was a very jolly lady who drank visiky and smoked sigeret and lived with her son as a friend.

“I am the luckiest mother in Sri Lanka. I got my son’s body back. There are thousands of mothers who never get their children bodies back," Dr. Saravanamuthu answered reporters after the Richerd inquest. That part of the film made me cry as a mother of two sons. It was very touching to me.

When this happened, Mr. Ranasinghe Premadasa was the President of Sri Lanka. Not only Mr. Richerd the Zoysa, but also many of the youngest lost their lives those days. Many more mothers lost their kids.

While Sanath Gunathilaka plays the role of Lalith Athulathmudali’s part, Priyantha Lalith as President Ranasinghe Premadasa, Rehan Amarathunga as Richard de Zoysa, Bimal Jayakody as Mahinda Rajapaksha, Ashan Dias as Mangala Rajapaksha, and Sajitha Anthony as Gayan.

I went to watch this film with my three neighbors. Since the tickets sell out rapidly, we purchased them online. As we bought them online, we had to pay an extra Rs. 380/- for 4 tickets.

Actually, I got the chance to watch a really good movie. Swarna Mallawarachchi, my favorite, played a very good role in that film. I am sure she will get the Best Actress of the Year award this time.

I request you to watch this film, as it is a good opportunity to see the success of the Sri Lankan film industry.
