Hello Steemians, hope you all are doing really great❤. As the whole world knows, The desert flower, waris Dirie born as a daughter of a Nomadic family in 1965, Somali desert and grew up with eleven siblings.

According to her autobiography it was a hard life and at the age of five she suffered from the inhumane procedure of female genital mutilation. Have you ever heard about the female genital mutilation. Well, it means removing the external genitalia of girls and young women's totally or partially. This is very dangerous process with severe pain, that can lead to death. She survived an infection that resulted from FGM, but her two sisters couldn't, as the fate of thousands of girls in Somalia. As the WHO says, 8000 girls becomes victims of this, per year.

When she was 13, her father forced her to marry an old man like her grandfather, then she decided to change her destiny and It was a adventurous escape. She had to walk alone for days in the desert and set her foots on a strange world. She arrived London and worked as a housemaid and McDonalds. Though it was a very difficult life she never give up her fight for a better life

At the age of 18 she was discovered as a model by a famous British photographer Terence Donovan. He is the person who made the ladder her to step up. Finally she became one of the first African supermodels. Her beautiful, attractive black image took ownership of front page of all the major magazines.

In the interview with Laura Ziv for the magazine Marie Clire, she shared her own experience of the cruel ritual of female genital mutilation and she was able to build an opinion against this cruel process all over the world.

Then as a human right activist she acted with the intention of not letting what happened to her, happen to anyone else. She travelled all around the world and participated conferences , met different people, who can make an impact on her mission. In 2002 she established her own foundation "waris dirie foundation." to raise her voice against FGM. In 2010 it was re-named as "Desert Flower Foundation". Currently the organization has international headquarters in Vienna and Austria and has regional offices in all around the world.
The foundation is consist of men and women with the determination of ending FGM from the earth. Today it's illegal in many parts of the world but still happening secretly. She was the first woman who raised the voice publicly against this injustice.

This is based on the waris's autobiography, Desert flower directed by Sherry Hormann in 2009, Liya kebade an Ethiopian model played waris dirie's role. She has done justice to the waris character and she is absolutely beautiful as waris.

According to me, waris is a real hero. She did her best and still doing for escaping thousands of girls from this cruel tragedy. She is an angel who changed the unfortunate fate of girls all around the world. Though she acts against FGM she loved her homeland. she loved her black color. When I read the desert flower, I realized a part of her soul is rooted in the desert, where she born. She is a beautiful woman both externally and internally.❤
