Isurumuniya (ඉසුරුමුණිය) Temple - Anuradhapura, SriLanka
Greetings everyone,

I hope you are all well. I am participating in the "Steem Atlas Challenge II - Pin Your Favorite Spot" contest organized by @damithudaya. Today I am going to share with you another beautiful place in Sri Lanka. This place is called Isurumuniya Viharaya. Those of you reading this article may have visited Isurumuniya several times. So such people know what kind of place Isurumuniya is. We chose Anuradhapura to worship on the third day of our 3-day pilgrimage. So Isurumuniya is a sacred place located in Anuradhapura.
About the Isurumuniya Temple

(Main entrance to the Isurumuniya)
As I mentioned above, Isurumuniya Viharaya is a Buddhist religious site located in Anuradhapura. Not only buddhists but also many foreign tourists come to worship Isurumuniya. Isurumuniya Viharaya is located near Tisa Lake. Isurumuniya Viharaya is famous among many for its carvings and the shape of the temple.

(This picture and video show the entire view of the Isurumuni Temple.)
This Isurumuni Viharaya was built by King Devanam Piyatissa, who ruled the Anuradhapura Kingdom in Sri Lanka at that time. King Devanam Piyatissa built this temple for monks to live in. Isurumuni Viharaya is famous for its Isurumuni carvings, namely the Isurumuni love couple, the man and the horse head, the pond and the royal family. Although I took several pictures of Isurumuni Viharaya, I was not able to take pictures of the carvings I mentioned. Because taking pictures of those carvings is prohibited. As a habit, if it is stated that taking pictures is prohibited in a certain place, I will not take pictures of them, whether there is anyone present or not.

(After entering the Isurumuniya Temple, on the right inside, you can see the two statues of Princess Hemamala and Prince Dantha.)
So, since I don't have any pictures of the carvings to share with you, I'll share one picture I took from the internet here to give you an idea of the carvings in Isurumuniya.

Isurumuni Lover ❤️
Source
This carving depicts the Isurumuniya couple. When the name Isurumuniya is heard, many people think of the Isurumuniya lovers. So, the couple here is said to be Prince Saliya and his lover Ashokamala. Saliya is the son of King Dutugemunu and he lost his kingship because he married Ashokamala, a young woman from the Sadol clan. This carving is made entirely of black stone. You can imagine the skill of the craftsmen of that time when you look at this carving.
There is a separate place in the Isurumuni Temple where these carvings are located and you can go there and see these carvings. However, as I mentioned above, taking pictures in this place is prohibited.
Rules to follow when visiting Isurumuniya
Since Isurumuniya is a buddhist shrine, all devotees must wear modest attire when visiting Isurumuniya.
Women are prohibited from wearing sleeveless or strap blouses or gowns, or dresses that are above the knee.
Men are prohibited from wearing shorts and are required to wear long trousers.
Wearing shoes and headscarves is prohibited within the temple grounds.
Taking pictures is prohibited in some places.
We should behave politely and calmly without shouting.

The Ashta Phala Bodhi is one of the eight Bodhi that sprouted from the original eight seeds of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura. These Ashta Phala Bodhis are located in 8 locations in Sri Lanka, one of which is Isurumuniya. The picture above shows the Ashta Phala Bodhi.

The Isurumuni chaitya is built on a large rock. To worship the chaitya, we have to climb the rock and reach its top. We can easily go to worship the Chaitya from the stairs on the rock. The pictures above show the Isurumuni chaitya.
The Isurumuni Buddhu Kutiya
Shown in the two pictures below, is the Buddhu kutiya in the Isurumuniya Temple. The entire Buddhu kutiya is covered with black stone and inside the Buddha Hall there is a standing statue of the Buddha, a reclining statue, and a statue in meditation.

It seems that you haven't visited the Ranmasu Uyana behind the temple. It's a very attractive place; even you can enjoy the cool breeze and beautiful environment on the Tissawewva Bunt. My favorite place of the Isurumuniya is this Ramnasu Uyana and Tissawewa Bunt.
Oh, I actually forgot to go to Ranmusu uyana. I only remembered it after reading your comment. I will definitely visit it the next time I go to worship Isurumuniya.
Most of the visitors forgot the Ranmasu Uyana, but it is the place must visit.
