The Power of Pages: How Books Shape Our Perspectives and Lives

Well, I guess that I have touched on this before. I can recall some of my conversations about the importance of reading and books.

Well, it is tough to choose somewhere to start on this. I guess I will just start with a question. Why do we read books?

Well, there is so much we know already. But, the universe is vast and knowledge is endless. Or is it? Who knows? But, we are limited to what we know. On top of that, we have some ideas from the our past experience and others' experience that we are building on. Are those necessarily true?

Here comes the power of books!

It is in changing our perspective. I will recite something from H. Saadon "Only pavements stay still". What he means by that is that we should be adaptive to change and not only in our actions. But, even in our thoughts. When we read books, there are things which we don't agree with. That's where the trick is.

If you encounter this, are you going to change your perspective? Or, are you going to build a better foundation on your previous idea which was challenge by what the writer of that book was saying?

I am reaching towards the end here. There are some people which we know for years and we have built that self image about. If in matter of 5 to 10 years those people haven't changed a single perspective, is that a good or a bad thing? Are we stopping and asking if we are the same? If yes, do we need to change that?

Let's not pretend that every word written and published is true; that is a big mistake and not different from the newspaper and MSM, and it also depends on what we read. Should i change my opinion about the with and the wolf if I read Snow White and Red Riding Hood? No way I will fall for the present fairy tale which is completely different from the gruwel some of over hundred of years ago. besides, I don't like to be brainwashed and use my brain since that is what differ us from animals (at least that is what we are told) we can think, consider and make up our mind or investigate before we decide what to believe but it's more healthy to be sceptical instead of believing everything told or written down.

Writers have imaginations and scientists who publish like to force their idea and results upon others for a very good reason (money) besides every idiot can publish a book and by now even AI did it, Is AI right should I believe a programmed engine?

NOTE: you can add the link to your other post about books to this entry.

Well, it is true that not everything is written is true. However, whatever we have read or experienced will be part of our unconscious. While it is not a good idea to agree with every word written. But, it is good to think about what is written.

If not everything is written is correct, are we correct all the way?

besides every idiot can publish a book

It could be just a sales-man, not someone with a deep understanding of what is he talking about.

Life is more like a mirror passing by on the road. If there are mud puddles, it is not the mirror's fault.
What is certain is that we learn from our own mistakes. You just have to learn to make the best of every failure.
