Singing A Cappella || You Raised me Up - Josh Groban and Arcade - Duncan Laurence Songs
Music has always been something that drives me and makes me forget my problems. I've always loved singing right from my secondary school, even though I didn't attend a music class or receive lessons on notes and pitches. Anytime I sing, it is as if a part of me is in greener pastures.
I would sing, and my seniors would call me to come and sing for them. I was a young talent then. I was once offered an opportunity to be trained in a music school abroad, but circumstances didn't permit. I turned it down.
This happened 7 years ago. I'm all grown now, and that thin voice is still there, though I'm not singing as I used to sing before. I left singing since then to focus on writing and open communication. There's this contest I hosted in the SteemKids and parents community. It's about singing a particular song and delivering the tone the way the artist sang it. Since it's not an easy contest, I, the host, decided to try this feat if I can actually do what I'm giving out.
You don't have to be the best at voicing melodious tones. All you have to do is be yourself and sing the song. Tune it in a way that reflects the tone of the song and doesn't go off key. It's now I realised the two songs given are high-pitched emotional songs 😁 but I killed it in a cappella even though instrumentals weren't used.
I gave two songs - Arcade and You Raised Me up. Out of these two, contestants are to sing just one. I thought of leading the way as the contest host, so I won't create an impression that I'm giving things I can't do.
Target: Tone of the songs
This is our target and not just the lyrics. I'll start with the first one. You raised me up by Josh Groban. This is the video of me singing the song in a acappella. I'm a treble, alto and tenor singer. I'm more like a chameleon that changes based on the nature of the song given to me, but I use treble for balance.

This song was difficult to maintain consistency in voice as I started with Alto but I got to a point where my breath failed and I couldn't push air out of my airway. That came the cracks. So I was looking for the best pitch to start the sing, as my pitch determines how consistent I'll be in singing the chorus**. You needed to see my Behind the Song cover.
You'll definitely laugh your ribs out because they were bad. Starting with Alto ended me in trouble as I sang the chorus. I lost track of my voice. The part I always have issues with is
You raised me up
This part of the song needs enough energy to voice out freely. If you have used up your energy initially, it may be very difficult for you to be consistent in your voice. The bridge part can take out your lungs if balance isn't attained.
This is what helped me. I started low with treble and then grew it gradually to attain those high notes. I allowed my airway to be used as I was singing from within. I was singing in my stomach. That was where the energy was conserved. You can use your normal voice, though, but start low at the beginning and be very calm. If not, you'll fail in the chorus. This was how I was able to sing the song without cracks in high notes or my voice.
Though it was plain, I loved the balance. In my next song, I'll try adding riffs. Adding riffs in a cappella isn't my thing. When you're singing this song, try to be inside the song. Let the song use your medulla. You'll be mad with it, and you'll be able to produce the tone with instruments.
If it were to sing this song with female Steemians, it would be, @ngoenyi, @vivigibelis and @ninapenda. Trust me, they have good voices that would be able to echo this song and make heaven come down. The song is really an emotional song, especially when played with a headset on your head. This song is perfectly sung by girls from my observations, but I want to break history when I sing it with instrumentals and riffs in my voice.

This particular song isn't as high as the first in notes. I was able to conquer it even with Alto, but I failed along the line using Alto. My voice wasn't consistent. When I want to sing this part,
I'm afraid of all I am
I tried starting low, and it did work out for me. As I was low, I was gradually rising to a high pitch as the chorus demands. The song is also an emotional song. You'll feel the emotions when rain is falling and you're in a duvet. Just play the song with a JBL speaker; you'll wish you were in the song. I was able to sing a cappella version of this song, but what helped me?
I used Trebble again to beat high notes. I derive strength using treble to sing high-note songs because I somehow get this balance needed to overcome whatever obstacles I encounter when delivering notes. Where I found it almost difficult to control was the
Oh oh, All I know, All I know Loving you is a losing game
It's not an easy feat singing these songs a cappella, as there's no drive, but singing with instrumentals makes you crave to be the artiste and songwriter. You know one thing about singing a cappella, your natural voice is heard. Have you ever sung a song with an earphone on? Probably you've increased the volume of the song, and you're motivated to sing.
If your voice is bad and loud, you won't know because it is as if you're singing like the artiste. The way your voice would blend in a natural and emotional way would make it difficult for you to decipher if you're singing off key. It's only those in your environment that can tell if your acapella blends well or if you're just shouting.
So the essence of singing acapella is to hear how good you are in singing and producing the tone of a voice. You may not like your voice and start comparing. If you do so, you won't progress. You need to be free and balanced and tend to like your voice. You don't need to compare your voice with others, as we all are created with different gifts. He may be more gifted than you in singing but may not be in producing the tones.
Learn to love your voice and also improve if need be. Singing helps you in open communication and is a cardiac exercise that helps improve your breathing rate and lung activity. If I'm to sing Arcade with steemians, it would be male steemians, and they are @nsijoro, @basil20 and @us-andrew.
On a scale of 100%, can you rate your host prior to the criteria for rating? Was I able to produce the tone of the songs well, or did I fumble? I'm open to suggestions and corrections, if any.
