Assalamu Alaikum steemian friends. Hope you are all well and healthy. The moderator @artist1111 bro of this community organized a nice contest. Where many steemians have participated. That's why I came to participate. Today's contest is called Season 13 - : Share Your Food diaries, Reviews, and Adventures!. Many thanks to him for organizing such a wonderful contest. Below I am mentioning the answers to the detailed questions.

Based on this contest I will review some exciting traditional dishes of our village. In different villages of Bangladesh, even in the modern era, the food of the ancient era is practiced. These foods have been in vogue since 40 years ago. But with the evolution of time, their design, quality is changing but the taste of the food remains the same. The taste, aroma and popularity of the traditional food in the haats of rural Bengal has remained intact for a long time. These are usually prepared locally and sold at low prices which have become a part of village life. We have many villages in Tangail, Mirzapur where these dishes are prepared. Here I will mention the name and description of some of the ancient dishes available in our village.

01Chanachur

  • Chanachur is a spicy dry food usually made with pulses, peas, almonds, chickpeas, curds and spices. Available in different flavors like salty, sweet or sour-sweet. It is quite popular to eat with tea. But I prefer Jhal Chanachur.
02Goza

  • Goja is a type of sweet that is usually made from flour or dough balls that are fried and preserved by dipping in sugar syrup. It is hard and crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. A type of juicy goja called rasagaja is also popular.
03Nimki

  • Nimki is a salty snack made by mixing flour, ghee or oil and salt. It is small in size and ideal to eat with tea. I buy this food sometimes and keep it in the jar.
04Singara

  • Singara is a fried dish with potato filling, spices and sometimes dal or meat filling. It is usually eaten with afternoon tea and is very popular in rural bazaars.
05Star nimki

IMG_20250214_143610.jpg

  • Star nimki is a different version of normal nimki which looks star shaped. It has a more crunchy and salty taste and is especially popular among children.
06Sweet dates

IMG_20250214_143656.jpg

  • Khurma is a sweet that is usually made of flour and ghee and fried and dipped in sugar syrup. It is quite hard and brittle and can be stored for a long time.

These dishes carry the tradition of rural Bengal and are widely sold in markets and fairs or festivals. They are usually homemade and are more popular for eating fresh.

The prices of traditional foods in our village markets vary throughout the year depending on the place, time and manufacturer. Approximate price per kg of the following foods is given. Chanachur is about Tk 200-300 per kg. Gauze is about Tk 150-250 per kg. Nimki is about 150-200 taka per kg. Singara 5-10 taka per piece. Star Nimki is about Tk 150-200 per kg. Sweet dates are around Tk 200-300 per kg.

Chanachur, singara and nimki are the most popular in the haat-bazaar of rural Bengal because they are readily available and cheap for daily snacks. Among the sweets, gaja and khurma are more popular during festivals. However, in recent times, due to the increasing influence of urban areas, many new types of food have taken over the market, but the value of these traditional foods has not decreased yet. So I presented these dishes to you, I hope you like them. So I am Inviting my lovely Steemian friends to Participate in this contest.
