Assalamu Alaikum steemians. Hope you are all well and healthy. Each of this week's learning contests is fantastic. So today I came to participate in this "Steemit Learning Challenge-S21W4; Asthma" wonderful learning competition organized by our physical teacher @ashkhan. Here I will answer few questions along with some practical work. So let's start and stay with me till the end.

What's Asthma? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post.

Asthma :- Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease in which the airways in the lungs become narrowed, making it difficult to breathe. It can usually be caused by allergies, dust, smoke, cold weather or stress. During asthma patients may experience wheezing and chest tightness. Medicines or inhalers are used to control it.

Causes of Asthma1000004742.pngSource
Allergensdust, pollen, animal dander, smoke or fungus.
Environmental factorsAir pollution, smoke, cold weather.
Physical activityExcessive physical activity can increase shortness of breath.
InfectionCold or viral infection.
StressExcessive stress or anxiety can aggravate asthma symptoms.

Symptoms of Asthma : shortness of breath, Feeling of pressure in the chest, wheezing, Cough, especially at night or in the morning, Difficulty breathing or exhaling.

Types of Asthma1000004741.jpgSource
Allergic asthmaCaused by dust, pollen or other allergens.
Non-allergic asthmatriggered by smoke, cold or stress.
Exercise-induced asthmacaused by physical exertion.

Reliever Inhaler, Provides instant relief during shortness of breath. And Preventive inhalers, Helps control asthma in the long term. If the asthma attack is severe and the patient has difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately. Asthma cannot be completely cured, but it can be controlled with proper treatment and lifestyle changes.

How would you diagnose a asthma? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?

To diagnose asthma, the doctor usually performs some tests based on the patient's symptoms and history. As per my knowledge there are several stages of asthma diagnosis. I have mentioned them in detail.

  • Symptom Monitoring : Whether there are symptoms like shortness of breath, chest tightness, wheezing or frequent coughing. Whether the symptoms are worse at night or in the morning. Does exposure to dust, smoke or cold make the problem worse?

  • Patient history : Whether the patient or a family member has asthma, allergies or other respiratory problems. Understanding environmental factors (dust, fumes) and lifestyle factors.

  • Spirometry Test : A device is used to check how effectively the patient's lungs are working. The patient's speed of inhalation and exhalation and the capacity of the lungs to hold air are measured.

Peak Flow Meter Test : A simple instrument measures the airflow capacity of the lungs. This is done regularly at home to monitor asthma control.

Allergy test : If asthma is suspected to be due to allergies, skin or blood tests are performed. This helps determine which factors are triggering asthma.

Bronchodilator Response Test : Breathing improvement is seen after administration of inhalation medication (inhaler).

If breathing becomes easier after the medicine, it may be a sign of asthma. The doctor analyzes all the data and confirms the diagnosis of asthma. Assessment of the patient's environment, lifestyle and physical condition is very important to determine this.

Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practising.

01 - Pursed Lip Breathing Exercise

1000004538.jpg

  • Pursed Lip Breathing Exercise is a simple breathing exercise that reduces fatigue, lowers high blood pressure, reduces air retention in the lungs, reduces shortness of breath. This exercise is easy to inhale and exhale and can be done at any time.

02 - Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise

1000004546.jpg

  • Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise is an effective exercise to improve breathing. It relaxes the muscles and stabilizes the heart rate, it relieves stress and anxiety. It increases the flow of oxygen to the lungs and makes breathing easier. Regular practice of this exercise is effective in controlling breathing problems.

03 - Chest Stretches

1000004557.jpg

  • Chest stretches exercise helps to flex and strengthen the upper body muscles. It helps maintain proper posture by keeping the chest open, it relieves muscle tension, it improves blood circulation and is effective in relieving shoulder, neck and upper back pain. Doing this exercise regularly improves body flexibility and lung function.
Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individual or patient.

My Breathing Experience & Review of 3 Exercises,

Today I practiced three breathing exercises Pursed Lip Breathing, Diaphragmatic Breathing and Chest Stretches. I was very impressed with the experience and benefits of each exercise. Below I summarize these experiences.

Pursed Lip Breathing Exercise:

To do this exercise I inhale slowly through the nose and exhale slowly with pursed lips. Observation,

  • Got more control over breathing.

  • Breathing felt easier and the pressure inside the chest was greatly reduced.

  • The whole process helped me stay mentally calm.

Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise:

Abdominal expansion felt during deep breathing in diaphragmatic exercises. Maintained focus during inhalation and exhalation. Observation,

  • Each breath felt deeper and fuller.

  • Due to the relaxation of the chest and abdominal muscles, a kind of light feeling is created in the body.

  • This exercise has been found to be very helpful in improving lung function.

Chest Stretches:

Did some stretching with arms outstretched to expand the chest. Observation,

  • Shoulder and chest tension is relieved.

  • The upright sitting posture has improved.

  • It brings a kind of physical and mental refreshment.

My feelings: These three exercises are tremendously helpful in controlling breathing. These not only gave me physical relief, but also reduced my mental stress a lot. I think everyone should incorporate these into their daily lives. People suffering from respiratory problems will also benefit if practiced regularly. So it's a great learning competition, I'm very happy to be a part of it.

So I am Inviting my lovely Steemian friends @zisha-hafiz , @selina1, @solaymann to Participate in this Competition.

Thank You So Much For Reading My Blog.

Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.

Observations

Task 1 (3/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about asthma and its causes, symptoms, and types. Asthma is a reversible condition that can be cured either with medications or physical therapy. I appreciate your effort.

Task 2 (3/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination and history taking, performing investigations and specialized tests. Excellent.

Task 3 (3/4)
You try the pursed lip, diaphragmatic breathing and chest muscle (pectoralis major) stretch. You did the diaphragmatic breathing and chest stretch correctly. But in pursed-lip breathing, you don't just move your head; you have to inhale through your nose and exhale like you're going to blow the candle. Always remember to take steam or nebulization before performing exercises to relax your muscles & dislodge sputum that can excrete out easily. I appreciate your efforts.

Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from asthma, as winter is the trigger of most people suffering from asthma. Thank you.
