MY EARLY LIFE WAS MARKED BY A SENSE OF UNCERTAINTY AND INSTABILITY
My early life was bad by sense of uncertainty and instability. My mom was struggling to make ends meet, and the financial stress was taken a toll on our family. To eat some of the burdens, my grandma kindly took me in and raise me as her own.
I RECALLED
I remember those early years fondly, surrounded by my grandma's love and key. She was kind and gentle soul, always putting others before herself. Despise the financial struggling we faced, she managed to create a warm and welcoming home, filled with laughter and joy.
However, financial situation was precarious, and my grandma had to work hard to make ends meet. I was exposed to harsh realities of poverty from a young age. I remember helping my grandma sell garri in the market, just to make enough money to eat. We would wake up early in the morning, and my grandma would prepare the garri, well I will help her carry the heavy load to the market.
In addition to selling garri, my grandma also sold firewood and kerosene to our neighbors. I would help her gather firewood from the nearby forest, and we would sell it to those who could not afford to buy it from the market. We also sold kerosene to our neighbors, who use it for cooking and lightning their home.
Despite the hard work my grandmother complained. She was always cheerful and optimistic, and she taught me to be the same way. She would often say, "when life gives you lemon, makes lemonade". She meant that even in the midst of adversity, we could find ways to make the best of it.
My Mum
But despite our financial struggles, my mom's family didn't make things easier for us. They would often press my mom's sisters children comma and make my mom feel like she wasn't good enough. They will say things like, " why can't your child be like our children?, they are all in universities, and they are doing so well.
Those was stung, and they made me feel like I wasn't good enough. But they also motivated me to work harder and prove them wrong. I knew that I had to push myself to stand out, not just for my sake, but for my mom's sake as well.
So I studied hard, and I work hard. I knew that education was the key to unlocking a better life, and I was determined to make the most of it. And then, the day finally came when I got admission into the University of uyo to study computer education. I was overjoyed, and my mom was proud of me too.
I graduated with a second class honor, and it was a proud moment for me and my family. I had finally proven myself, and that i had made my mom proud. An even though my mom family steel didn't regard us highly, I knew that I had achieved something special, and that I had made a better life for myself.
Looking back, I realized that my early life was not without its challenges. But my grandma's love and support, and my own determination and hard work, with my mom's encouragement, help me to overcome them and achieve my goals. I am thankful for the experience and I know that it has shaped me into a stronger, wise are, and more compassionate person.
