Weekly Reflections #31: Lessons from my Profession | "Doctor"
For many people, I am already known as a physician, but I don't really write much about it. Today I find this contest interesting and I will leave here some of my experiences.
At the beginning of my youth I wanted to take a short career and without knowing what I was getting into I decided to study to become a nurse. After four years I was so excited to be a nurse but I wanted to have more knowledge and decided to pursue a career in medicine, so now I am a doctor as well as a nurse.

When I studied and started in the medical internships it was very easy for me because my start in health sciences helped me to overcome the fears of every newbie in a hospital. I was not afraid of interacting with patients or the staff under my care, as I had been through that for a few years.
I studied with many sacrifices. When I started nursing, I did it against my father's wishes. I got scholarships for my grades, which I was granted for my last three years of nursing school. Then I went to medical school and also did it on my own.
Whenever I had a vacation I got a job at the hospital where I had worked. Everyone knew me and so in August and December vacations, which are the longest periods of teaching and student recess, I worked hard and saved all the money I needed to be able to pay for my semesters at the University.
I made it, I did it, I graduated, I worked in many hospitals in various cities of my country. Wherever there was a need for doctors, I was there working. But the years went by and I could not do a three-year specialization. I only did a sub-specialization of 8 months and I specialized in ultrasound imaging. And that is what I am currently working on.
With my ultrasound equipment and in my own office, I check the different organs of the human body that patients request, with an order signed by a medical specialist, or by the patient's own decision. Every day in the morning I do the ultrasound exam for my patients, then I prepare their medical report and that's it, I'm done with my work for the day.
I think that if I ever had the conscious opportunity to live again, I would choose the same thing, first to be a nurse and then to be a doctor. With the difference, I would try to do a specialization faster rather than working all over the cities. I would love to go back to imaging because I love my job, and I am passionate about what I do.

If someone asks me if I recommend studying ultrasound imaging as a medical student...I would say yes. The knowledge of ultrasound imaging taught me to be a better doctor, to better understand many pathologies, and to make better and more effective diagnoses in order to integrate the patient as quickly as possible into his or her normal life. As healthy as possible.
I have been doing my job for more than 15 years, I do not doubt that I have made some mistakes unintentionally, but what I do know is that I do my best to be as accurate as possible in my diagnoses.

Thank God I have not had to pay for my mistakes with human losses because what I do is a test that can contribute to a definitive or palliative diagnosis. With alternatives to repeat the study in case of uncertainty, which I make it known in the description of the organs to the treating physician and the patient.
Thank you for the opportunity to make this publication talking a little about my specialization.
I am writing for the first time in this contest and I hope you like my writing. By sharing the great lessons of life in my profession.
