Lunugamvehera National Park is the largest National Park, close to Yala National Park. It is in the Moragala District of Uva Province. This national park opened in 1995 to protect the catchment area of Lunugamvehera and the wildlife of that area.

It is a dry-mixed National Park and rich in biodiversity. Mainly resides birds and elephants in this park. The elephants walk from Yala National Park to Udawalawe National Park, using this park as a corridor.

We also can see wild buffalo; in addition, we can see many mammals and birds. Deer, monkeys, and peacocks are common sights in that area.

To reach this place we can use public transport on the southern highway/E01 route from Colombo. It is about 242 away from Colombo. It only takes three and a half hours.

How to explore this park.

---

It is open to the public every day from 6.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. throughout the year. Jeep safari is the only way to visit this park. Half-day safaris start at 6.00 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. and charge Rs. 16,000.00 (steem 398.000). 6–8 people can sit there, and a full-day safari costs Rs. 30,000.00 (steem 748.000).

The Jeep safari covers the wetlands, grasslands, forest sections, etc. This safari is an excellent experience for wildlife photographers.

Entrance fee

To enter this National Park fee is Rs. 150 (steem 3.5) for local adult tourists and Rs. 100 (steem 2.4) for children between 6-12 years. For students, they charge Rs. 50/-. These charges are only to enter, but safari charges are added to this amount.

But the foreign entrance charges are higher than this. For foreign people, a Ticket + Safari Jeep for 3 hours costs USD 180 (Steem 1318).
