My wonderful people, I greet you all, hope you are doing well today.

Have you ever sat down to think about the little things we do daily, that poses a threat to the wellness of you and your environment? Has it ever bothered you as to where that piece of paper goes to when you let it fly out of your hand? Or thought of what happens to the Buble-up, U-Fresh containers we toast to the other side of the road?

Certainly, many people have not considered how far these little things go, and the harm they cause to us and our environment.

When we walk along the way, we see nasty things people throw. Most times, these things will be there and even start smelling, and we sometimes cover our nostrils or wear our face mask when we walk reach that place. All these are dirty things people have dump by the road and they've began to smell. Well, today, I want to encourage you to wait and not throw it yet.

Why should you wait??

  1. Because you'll certainly meet a trashcan somewhere.
You will meet a trashcan along the road as you walk by. The council has provided trashcans and these are placed along the road because it's accessible by all. Sometimes, it may not even be the trashcan provided by the council. You could spot one just anywhere and by anyone. Make use of it. Don't just eat or drink and dash it to one corner of the road.

  2. Because it's a prove of how responsible a citizen you are.
Yes. How many responsible citizens do we have who look out to the cleanliness of their town? Who would not throw things anyhow because they believe that they are responsible for how their town looks. Such citizens will not throw papers, peelings of groundnuts and banana's anyhow.

  3. Because we all deserve a clean environment.
You and I deserve to live in an environment with clean and fresh air. Air that is not polluted by waste that has decomposed. Have you ever passed in a nasty place when it has rained? How did you feel? Probably you wished you would never pass they again. Unfortunately, people living in a town like Douala don't care about this. They would dump dirt anyhow, and at the end of the day, rain will carry the same dirt into their home. Do you deserve such???

  4. Because you are an example.
Do you know the impression people have about you when they see you looking out to the well-being of your environment? They may never tell you, but they think positively about the impact you are creating. If you desire a clean environment, creat it. Don't look at your neighbor to do so. Start by dumping dirt in the right place, and eventually, others will copy.

  5. Because you are the voice of the environment.
You'll probably be asking how do I mean? Well, let me tell you this short story..... Sometime ago, I was in a taxi, and one of the passenger was eating groundnuts and just throwing the peelings through the window. So, I turned to her and told her that what she is doing is not right, that even if there are people who clean the road, she should not be the one making it dirty. I offered her a paper to put the peelings inside. Well, I reached my destination before her, but I'm certain she learned something.

  6. Because you can take it home.
I just can't count the number of times I have carried peelings of groundnuts, papers, corn stick, and other things in my bag and even forget it inside because I didn't see a place to throw it. This has become a lifestyle for me, such that I don't throw things anyhow. Sometimes, you'll be in a place, you eat something but you don't see where to throw the waste, not even a bush. You know what, keep it. Yes, you can keep it and take it home, then you throw it.

In conclusion,
We are all called to take care of our environment, and to make it the place we want it to be. So, stop wishing for a good environment, rather start working for a good environment.

Thank you for reading.
I hope this will inspire you to wait, and not throw that waste yet.
Stay blessed family.

A good post. we should always ask ourselves what we have done to the environment to protect it and not only what the environment has done for us

Nice write up but it's rather unfortunate to cultivate the habit of carelessly disposing our waste
