SLC S23W3 / Mimos
Picture of the casts and myself
Introduction |
---|
When I was a little girl in my basic school days, one of the aspects of arts that I featured well was miming. In those days, it was much more common than it is currently in my country. It was very common that whenever you attend a school party, there must be a group of children miming either in dancing or drama presentations. It was usually so unique. It is a privilege again to see such topics come up, and I'm excited that I'm guiding my children to partake in this challenge.
In this contest, I used my children. They were the actors while I guided them on what to do, as I mainly played the director's role.
Clothing/costume
In this challenge, we used black, white and red colours. My boys used red t-shirts while my daughter used black, and I used black and white while they all used white on their hands.
Makeup
To make it more colourful, white African clay was used to paint the children's faces while red lipstick was used to colour their mouths. The older one was the one who applied the clay chalk and lipstick on their faces while I mainly supervised.
Practical Task |
---|
Record a video where you perform a mime act, trying to convey a message only through gestures, movements and expressions. 3 points
What messages did you try to share during the activity? |
---|
In the video above, the children tried to convey an act of kindness and almsgiving to people in need. You can see that the homeless guy was hungry and tired. He needed help. The guy who went to him showed concern, asking him why he was sad, but tended to bully him when he said he was hungry and arrogantly walked away.
The lady was moved with compassion when she saw the homeless guy that she brought him food to eat. Not just that, she also gave him a warm hug to show how much she cared. Lastly, the homeless guy was happy about the lady's kindness to him.
Message:
We live in very difficult times when people hardly show kindness to others. We should model kindness and also teach our children to be kind to people.
Do you think that, despite not using words, the message reached the public? 1 point |

Yes, I believe the message was clearly and properly conveyed. Although it was very short, the message was clear.
Steps are Shown Below
Step 1: The homeless guy was sad, hungry and tired
Step 2: The guy went to ask what his problem was without offering help but arrogantly walked away.
Step 3: The kind lady saw the homeless guy and was moved with compassion that she brought him food to eat.
Step 4: She didn't just offer food, she further showed love by hugging him.
Step 5: The homeless guy, after receiving the food, was hopeful and thankful that he was happy and excited that someone has showed him love.
How did the child feel doing this activity? Was it difficult for him not to pronounce words or did he miss a word or sound during the process? 1 point |

It was completely new to my children because they have never played such roles before. My second son forgot and spoke when he wanted to ask what the problem was, I had to make him act the part again.
Secondly, when I asked my daughter to act an extra part, she refused, so I had to make her act the part she was comfortable with.
In all, I think the children tried their best though we had rehearsed many times in order not to make mistakes.
Thanks for the invitation @chilaw.
