I have two big ones locally that I frequent, originally to help me feed the homeless, but now for my own use too. I got some Chinese made groceries at Walmart that were seriously substandard. Upon a litle research, I have concluded that I would rather use US made food that was several years out of date (with a little less nutrient value), than to buy "fresh" food that was not safe to eat. Since deciding that, I was surprised to find most was still current, and MUCH less expensive. I bought 4 pounds of spaghetti made with durham wheat for $1. I am going back to stock up on a lot more. Their prices here are less than 25% of the regular grocery store costs. It is a smart use of money, when done with reasonable care.
I also shop at the dollar stores for groceries. Know what things are worth, and you can save a lot of money at dollar stores. I get most of my bread there, and save at least 50% over the grocery stores.
Arnica is very good, but I find Comfrey a slightly better herbal for bruises and internal pains (especially joint pain).
Good to know on the comfrey! What is your prefered way to use it?
I have some growing here.
I gathere leaves & dry them yearly, but havent used them yet
I usually do a decoction ( Low temp 150 degrees, water extraction for 10 days) of the roots into a syrup, then add 50% alcohol to preserve it as a tincture. I use the tincture in a roller bottle, and most of the time I even carry that one. It is the king of herbals, I have had it heal a bruise overnight! The leaves make a good tea, but they are not as strong in the active compounds. To use them, I make the tea, and keep the leaves. I wrap them in a coffee filter, and put plastic on the outside surface (so they will not dry out); then I tape the formentation / poltice where it is needed, and leave it overnight as a minimum. If tape bothers your skin, use an elastic bandage instead. If you put the tea, and the poltice in the refrigerator when not in use; you can re-wet the poltice and reuse it for about three days. it will work a little longer, but it spoils, and a new batch is easy. I also drink the tea, some say that is bad, due to the active compounds in it, but my reading shows they are over reacting. GOD Bless, and keep studying herbals!
