Hi everyone,

I hope you all are well. Today I am going to share my experience of working from home—the pros and cons and how I'm managing it.

Working remotely as a PHP Laravel developer has been an enriching experience during my internship, which is now nearing completion. I've tackled challenging tasks and contributed to company projects, gaining valuable experience and understanding the pros and cons of remote work.

The Perks of Working Remotely

Flexible Schedule: One of the greatest benefits of remote work is the flexibility it offers. You can work at your own pace without the constant supervision of HR or your manager. Whether it's taking a quick nap or grabbing a snack, you have the freedom to manage your time as you see fit.

No Commute: Say goodbye to early wake-ups and long commutes. Working from home means you can stay in your comfort clothes and work from your favorite spot without worrying about traveling to an office.

Work-Life Balance: Remote work allows you to maintain a healthier work-life balance. If you need to attend to personal matters during the day, you can make up the work later in the evening, something that's not possible in a traditional office setting.

The Challenges of Remote Work

Family Interruptions: Family members often misunderstand remote work, thinking you're available because you're at home. While they usually respect my work time, seeing my mom working alone around the house often compels me to step in and help, which can disrupt my work schedule.

Distractions at Home: Phone calls, voice notes, unexpected guests, and family members seeking attention can all interrupt your focus. It’s challenging to maintain productivity with these distractions around.

Technical Issues: Unreliable internet and sudden power outages can be significant setbacks. Unlike in an office, where technical issues are promptly resolved, at home, they can cause considerable delays.

Lack of Professional Environment: Being at home all the time can be stifling. I miss the professional environment where I can learn from colleagues, engage in stimulating conversations, and work without domestic distractions.

My Preference: On-Site Work

Despite the advantages of remote work, I prefer working on-site. Here’s why:

Learning from Professionals: Being surrounded by professionals offers continuous learning opportunities and immediate feedback, which is invaluable for personal and professional growth.

Uninterrupted Work: On-site work eliminates the distractions of home life, ensuring a focused and productive work environment.

Social Interaction: I thrive on social interactions and enjoy the camaraderie of working with a team. Fresh air, outdoor gatherings, and mingling with colleagues keep me energized and motivated.

Managing My Remote Work Routine

Here's how I manage my busy schedule while working remotely:

Morning Routine: I wake up around 10 or 11 AM, have breakfast, clean the kitchen, and then start my work after prayers.

Focused Work Hours:I work diligently through the day, taking a break in the evening.

Evening Routine: After the evening prayer, I attend meetings and sometimes step out for errands, ensuring I finish my work early if I have plans.

Late-Night Wrap-Up: After dinner and kitchen cleanup, I go for a walk and then settle down to post on Steemit before enjoying a peaceful night's sleep.

Conclusion

Working remotely has its perks and challenges, but it has taught me a lot about time management and balancing personal and professional life. While I appreciate the flexibility, I look forward to the dynamic environment of on-site work where I can grow and thrive among peers. This experience has been a significant chapter in my career, and I’m excited about what lies ahead.
