Moving Forward From Rejection

in Project HOPE7 hours ago

One of the things that a lot of people have experienced in their life is rejection. In fact, some days back, I was having a discussion with a friend who told me how she was turned down from a particular contract that she bid for, which she was very sure that she qualified for. She felt so bad about it, but I encouraged her and told her that she should not see it as a failure but as a stepping-stone. I told her that if one door seemed to be closed, a lot of other doors and opportunities will be opened it its stead. With this, she got her hopes back and in no time, she got another contract which was far better than the one she lost. This goes to prove that you can move forward from rejection and still make a headway. Here, we shall take a look at how to move forward from rejection.

The first step towards moving forward from rejection is to change your perception about rejection. A lot of people view rejection as failure or that they cannot amount to anything in life. But you need to look beyond that. That you were rejected in an attempt does not mean you have failed, so change your mindset. I have read about a lot of people who were rejected many times in their life but were still able to rise above it and then made some really good success. You have to also understand that rejection may not be as a result of your personality, so do not think that something is wrong with you, it may just be something beyond your control. So try to look beyond rejection and look at the other opportunities.

The next step is that you should be open to learn from what has happened. For the fact that it happened, means that something may have caused it. When you know why what happened has happened, then learn vital lessons from it, then you will be able to guard against future occurrences. In life, things do not just happen, rather there is a reason why they happen. When you understand this, then you will know that there will obviously be what to learn from anything that happens. By analysing your past rejection, you will be able to gain enough insight to be able to increase your chances of success in the next attempt.

In addition to this, you should not also let your past rejection to define you or who you are. Always remind yourself that you are not a failure, neither are you a non-entity. That you were rejected in the past does not imply that you were not good enough, rather it only means that it simply did not work out for you. I once read about Walt Disney and how he was told that he lacks creativity. Well, we all know that Walt Disney has become a household name even in the entertainment industry. This was because he did not allow his rejection to define who he is. He looked beyond the temporary failure and looked at what he wanted to achieve and he finally achieved it.

Another very vital thing you should have in mind is; do not be afraid to start again. If you were turned down or rejected in the past, do not give up, try again and again until you get accepted. While growing up, there was a friend who wanted to get into the Defence Academy. The first time he tried, his score was just a few marks short of the cutoff mark. He felt so devastated, but he did not give up. He went again the next year and it happened again. That time, even his family advised him to stop trying and try something else, but he did not give into the discouragement. He tried again the third year and that was his breakthrough, he got in finally. At the moment, he is now a captain the Army. Do not allow a "no" to make you to stop trying. After all, you only got a "no," not a death sentence.

The last point is to always surround yourself with people who will influence you positively and help you to believe more in yourself. Have someone to talk to, someone you can trust, when you feel like life is coming at you very fast. Sometimes, you may just need to hear someone say to you "keep moving forward," and it will revive your hopes. Do not underestimate the power that is embedded in good friendship.
