In every country, soldiers are respected by the people and there is no common man who haven’t shown his patriotism by showing respect and affection towards the soldiers of his country. In general everyone respects and love his/her country. I also do the same. It is quite natural to love and respect the land where one takes birth. Soldiers take care of the security of the country and fight against the enemies. They live quite a difficult life. Thus it is obvious that we all respect them and see them as our protectors. I do the same as I am also a human being.

But, many a time it comes to my mind that if our soldiers are protecting us, then who are those people who attack on my country. Off course they are not aliens. Then who are they? It is clear that they are also soldiers. So, the people who are protecting the borders of one country are also responsible for violating the security of the neighboring country. Those are the soldiers as well. They are also respected and loved in their country, but they are menacing for the enemy country as well. Heroes of one country may be the villains for another country. It all depends on which side one resides.

No doubt, soldiers have to live a very difficult life. They have to forgo their human rights in order to obey the orders of their superiors. They have to sacrifice their life for others. But, it doesn’t make them great human beings. Whenever they help people in disasters, they are good people. But, when they attack on another country or kill their fellow countrymen, they are bad. In enemy territory they kill innocent civilians, rape women and torture people. They do everything which normal killers do.

Our system have made them highly skilled killers or should rather say butchers. They are not expected to show their wit and take guidance from their consciousness. They are meant to be used by the rulers and require to obey orders at any cost. So, morality, compassion and humanitarian values have no place while obeying the orders by them. They can kill their own fellow countrymen, including their family, if their rulers desire it. We have seen in Myanmar that soldiers are killing civilians because civilians wanted democracy. In North Korea, Pakistan, Iran and all the countries where dictatorship is in power or where military control the nation, people are denied basic human rights. Army and police kill innocent people in almost all the countries in the world. In modern time, not much people are killed in warfare as compared to the people killed by their own police. Police and army can kill anyone in some countries if he or she is against the tyranny of the rulers of the country. Spies, undercover agents and secret agents of many countries are indulge in heinous crimes. They kill innocent people and good leaders of others as well as of own country, just in the name of patriotism and national interest.

That’s why no one should be respected if that person is devoid of basic human traits like wisdom, compassion, humanitarian outlook etc. and is averse to crime and immoral acts. Soldiers are human beings and they should not be respected blindly just because media portraits them as the heroes. Hero worship is the most disgusting form of worship that one can do. Don’t forget to remember that your heroes won’t hesitate to kill you if your rulers decide to do so. Soldiers (army, police and even private militia) are the servants of their masters. They are loyal to the country till their master is loyal to the country. They don’t think about the fellow countrymen, when their masters orders them to kill the people. That’s why soldiers are not patriots. They are the obedient servants of their masters. Just think about it.
