The Great Wall of Seoul, Dividing the Old and the New
During one of my afternoon walks in Seoul, I went down an alley, then climbed a steep hill, which then led me to the Fortress Wall of Seoul. Accidental find with a beautiful view. The wall was built in 1396 to protect the city from invaders. It is called the Hanyangdoseong in Korean.
It consists of a series of walls, with parts being destroyed but a large part of it is also in restoration. It has four beautiful main gates called Heunginjimun (East Gate), Donuimun (West Gate), Sungnyemun (South Gate), and Sukjeongmun (North Gate). Ever been to Seoul and seen this wall? It is a lovely stroll with some great views of the old Seoul and the new. Perfect harmony of modern and classical. I love this kind of harmony. Do you have any other examples? Share! :)
