📺 TV Series Review: Continuum
I've recently binged the entire 3 seasons of the TV Show Continuum and thought that I'd share a few thoughts...
Background
Continuum is set in Vancouver, starting in the year 2077. A fairly believable and bleak future where corporations have taken over control of the government, including its justice system. Not too dissimilar to the world that we now live in but instead of this happening in the shadows, it's happening in full sight.
The main character is a futuristic cop (Kiera Cameron played by Rachel Nichols) who is "happily" married with a young son (probably 6 or 7 years old, I'm not sure that we're told).
I'm a big fan of pretty much any film / TV Series that involves time travel so there was a good chance that I'd enjoy it. With each episode lasting approximately 40-45 minutes, it's the perfect length in my opinion and perfect for the "just one more" factor.
Warning: Probably Contains Spoilers
Season 1
As with many TV Series, the 1st season sucks you in. As part of her job, Kiera is present at an execution of 7 terrorists. She's supposed to be stationed outside of the execution chamber but is moved inside at the last minute. Seeing one of the prisoners hold something out, she tries to intervene but before she can, they've all been transported back to 2012 where she will remain for the duration of the series.
Obviously confused by her new surroundings, she tries to contact her superiors as CPS (the company that run the police) only to find its creator, a young Alec Sadler (played by Erik Knudsen) testing out some new technology that he's working on.
She quickly realises that he's a genius in everything technical and her only hope of returning to her family, still in 2077.
Kiera somehow manages to get her way into the Vancouver Police Department as a specialist officer for a new terrorist group - Liber8 (the time-travelling terrorists). Liber8's goal - to ensure that people in their future have freedom by fighting against Corporate Rule.
With their knowledge of the future, one of liber8's members makes a fortune on the stock market, one's a tech genius (although not as good as Alec) and the technology Kiera returned with helps Alec to produce some scary futuristic devices.
It's a well told story and hangs together well. With each decision and action, Kiera wonders what impact it's having on her future with the season ending with a major terrorist attack and Alec discovering a hidden message, sent to himself from the future.
Season 2
Season 2 gets off to a strange and slightly irritating start. Whatever message Alec has received is causing him inner turmoil that he struggles to come to terms with. Whilst wanting to help Keira, he's hesitant to follow the technology path, knowing that he's responsible for the dystopian future that Keira's come from.
Throughout the season, futuristic technology continues to be introduced, along with more time travellers, including Kiera's partner who by 2012 is an old lady having arrived many years earlier. There's also a rival to Liber8's "stock trader" (Mr. Escher) - always one step ahead that has also planted a lover into Alec's life.
Spoiler: That lover (Emily) gets shot and dies.
Ah, and I should probably mention that in Season 1, Alec's brother - Julian - is revealed as the "poster-boy" for Liber8 in 2077.
The season ends with Alec and Kiera by Mr. Escher's time machine.
Does Alec selfishly travel back to save Emily? Or does he allow Kiera to return to 2077?
Alec travelled back.
Season 3
This season wasn't as good as the previous 2. Having travelled back in time (just a couple of weeks), there are 2 Alec's battling it out. Kiera stops trusting either of them, as she's also sent back in time to choose which Alec is the best. Only to later discover that the original Kiera was shot dead.
After a few episodes, we are introduced to another time traveller, from a different future. Kiera learns that her timeline is now unreachable and she's here to stay. Her attitude towards the terrorist time travellers softens and in some episodes, she even teams up with her old foes.
When Liber8 discover that they've changed the future, they celebrate and then wonder what to do with themselves. Mission Accomplished. Although the new future sounds no better than that of Kiera's.
In the final episode, the new time traveller uses a device which when activated, sends a message to the future. If nothing happens after this message is sent, then his future has also been changed.
Something happened... so I'm awaiting season 4.
Season 4
In writing this summary, I looked at IMDB to make sure that I didn't confuse seasons and discovered that there are currently 6 episodes in Season 4. I was planning to watch Jack Reacher Season 3 next so maybe I need to delay that and get this properly finished first.
Is Continuum Good?
Given that I binged 3 seasons back-to-back, I've got to say yes. As I mentioned before, the episode length is perfect in my opinion and I was always left wanting to know what happens next. Which is still the case at the end of Season 3.
I'll defer my rating until I've watched Season 4!
Reacher season 3 comes in 48 hours or so, and the season starts with 3 episodes airing the first day! Gonna enjoy these a lot, can't wait to binge them.

It looks like season 4's only 6 episodes. I did 2 last night, 4 to go. I've got loads of time.
👇 Oh so true! Why you'd cast a midget to play a man mountain is beyond me.

Wait a minute! You can already watch the new season? Are you watching on Prime? Because on Prime the new season doesn't show up in my case, probably tomorrow it will be available.
Ah no, I’m referring to Season 4 of continuum. I managed to watch it before Reacher becomes abailable 😊

Oh, thank you for answering back that fast, I started looking for torrents with a leak or something in case it released somewhere already. I can stop searching.

Ha ha. No problem. I didn’t realise I’d replied so quickly, your message must’ve coincided with the end of my latest binge!
My kids made me watch The Flash, and ever since, my obsession with time travel has ended. The last seasons were so cringeworthy and pathetic. But I’ll give this one a try. Is it a family show?
What’s up with you, fil? Still here? Posting non-stop, battling nightmares, and binge-watching like there’s no tomorrow. You good?

I'd say 'no'. Unless your family are all adults or at least over the age of 13. Or if you don't mind your children watching people blow each others' heads off 🙂
Yeah - I'd say things are good. My head feels like it's in a good place 🙂

I'll come back and read the rest of your writeup after I check out season 1. I didn't want to have any of it spoiled but since I've never heard of this and it seems like it might be right up my alley, this could be a real winner for me.
If you like Sci Fi / Time Travel, then you'll probably enjoy it.
There are definitely disappointing moments (like I don't care for a lot of the 2077 flash"backs") and some poor "action" scenes but overall, it's decent.
Once you've watched a few, let me know what you think!
I started Season 4 last night so a follow-up article is already on the cards!
I think that this is kind of to be expected by sic-fi series. They have to spend so much more money than say, and episode of a sitcom so there are always going to be some downsides.
