Synthesizing Hip Hop Beats With Instrumentals # 20 - How Lucky Can You Get ( FREE DOWNLOAD)
To start of this hip hop melody, I first laid down some acoustic grand pianos found in the vsti sample tank. Even though I started off with this sound, these pianos won't come in until the build of the instrumental. If you listen closely, they won't come in until the 25 second mark on the instrumental hip hop beat.
The next first set of strings that I added to the instrumental were the SQ STRINGS found in the PURITY VSTI and I basically copied the main pattern from the acoustic grand piano. If you look into the screenshot, you could also see another set of strings playing along with the SQ Strings.
The second set of strings that were combined with the SQ STRINGS were the Violins Section found in the sample tank vsti. I added these strings with the SQ Strings to create a more fuller sound in the instrumental for the strings. These 2 sounds combined can be heard throughout the entire instrumental. You can see the Purity strings and the sample tank strings in the same pattern because I wanted it to sound like it was only 1 set of strings playing in the beat instead of two. Sometimes you just have to combined 2 or more sounds to get a brand new sound and by combining these 2 strings into 1, I created a brand new set of strings that fit this instrumental perfectly!
After I laid down the foundations to get the instrumental music going, I then started to work on the drums for the beat. I like to keep my drum patterns simple because it allows the melody to flourish. Some of my beats have simple drum works and some have complicated drum patterns with a lot of break downs. It all depends on the type of vibe that I'm getting off the beat. Make sure to listen to what your instrumental music is telling you when you are creating it because music speaks to us and if you can't hear your own music that you are creating then you're going to have a tough time bonding with your own creation in my opinion.
To add the main melody, I added a sound called Winter Music Box. It literally sounds like a sound from a music box that you open up and it starts to play some twinkle song lol. This sound matched the vibe of the beat perfectly and it gave that Music Box type of sound. Just imagine opening up a music box and this instrumental starts to play, that would be dope because it would sound really nice for a music box instead of twinkle twinkle. You can find this sound in the VSTi plugin called PURITY
You know I couldn't forget about the world famous SUB BASS from the VSTi plugin Hypersonic on my instrumental beat. It's not really world famous, I just said that because I'm always using this sub bass for most of my instrumental hip hop music beats or in other genres of instrumentals that I create. This bass line is basically going along with the melody of the beat, can you hear it? This bass is what gives the instrumental beat it's bump, very hard to miss if you have some good headphones or speakers in general.
The next sound that was synthesized into this instrumental hip hop beat were Simple SQR lead synth from the virtual studio technology, PURITY. This sound comes in at the 12 second mark, giving the instrumental that merry-go-round type of vibe to this beat. This sound is easy to hear along with the strings and the MusicBox sound when the beat is at it's calmness state of tune. It's also in the build of the instrumental, can you hear it?
The last sound that fit the puzzle to this instrumental music were the CHEEP LEAD found in the PURITY vsti. The pattern to this was copied from the bass line. This is the sound that is going along side, riding the bass line and acting as the bass line's support

And I know what you mean about Soundcloud, sometimes I try to search and listen to some new motivation and after a good hour of listening to some "okay sounding" beats, I just go back to my own and get inspired off of that. There are some good producers on soundcloud though, don't get me wrong but a lot of them are drowned out by those other producers that seem to not have quality beats.
