It doesn't need your camera but if you want to video chat through it with the other parties seeing yourself, you'll need to give it camera access. Not sure about the 5 minutes thing. Easiest is to RSVP. Stumbled on it on Twitter myself.

Except that isn't the reason. Steemit Inc. could've easily promoted it to relevance . . . or posted about it at all.
Sure hope Ned's still alive. Been MIA for a while now. No comments for over 2 months! And powering down! Wacky series of events. Curious as to what is to be said.
Yep, I really wonder about that too. To be honest, thank god for all the solid witnesses, independent developers of STEEM and third party app-builders. Otherwise my optimism on the future here would be waning. It's nice to see people not waiting on Steemit, Inc. to make things happen. But the fact remains there are numerous things a lot of us expected to already be released which were listed in 2017/2018 roadmap, like official smartphone apps & communities, that still are nowhere to be seen or even given a solid release date.

Ok well while I am watching, here are some observations:
1 - did anyone notice in the interview that he mentioned all the cool people and then said, 'and the steemit guy is here'
2 - then dude goes on for 15 minutes reading the news!
3 - this is hilarious gushes over other guest lol
