Euronews' Safari Image of Africa
Of all the violence and turmoil in the conflict riddled Democratic Republic of Congo, (DRC), what global channel, Euronews found as its pick of the day from there is nothing but the selfie posted on Facebook by a park ranger regarding orphaned gorillas.
No news item has the same meaning for everybody in an unproblematic universalist sense but how might Africans not read this as inferring a racist view of it in relation to the dreary situation in the DRC?
Not usually associated with hair raising, devil-may-care coverage of Africa, Euronews appears to have got this wrong. How many pictures came out of Africa today on Euronews and about what and what today? Surely, when checked, it would be difficult for it to escape a charge of bad handling of difference!
