Afif, My elder sister's son is studying at a madrasa in Dinajpur. He got a 7 day vacation so he came to us in Narayanganj. Yesterday, my husband, and me decided to take him to Sheikh Russel Park for an evening outing.

That time we had there was magical and it will stay in my heart for a long long time. It was getting dimmer and the soft evening glow and we went into the park. The trip was well planned. Just the three of us going to enjoy some quiet in nature.

What happened : The Evening at the Park

The second we entered the park when we felt relaxed. The breeze, the rustling leaves and the fresh air reminded me of a stress free city life. There were soft lights, the distant chirping of birds, the laughter of children playing makes the park seem alive.

Afif is a very energetic boy. The second we walked in he ran off to a tree. He was so excited, we all just laughed. We found a nice quiet place to sit and enjoy the quiet. Everything around us was beautiful in the soft evening light.

Cotton Candy

A man came past, selling cotton candy while we were talking. Pink fluffy candy reminded me of my childhood. “My husband said this wasn’t just candy, it was a taste of memories,”. We bought 2 piece and when we started eating, it seemed like we were children once again. Arif's nose and his mouth were both pink. As all get out, We laughed so hard because of his silly antics.

Jhal Muri

After that, a vendor came with a spicy puffed rice (jhal muri). The thoughts of jhal muri excited us all. The perfect snack for the evening: tangy and spicy.My husband joked with me, life’s real joy in simple things like this. He enjoyed his share too. A little happily, complete moment.

Lake View

We had a walk around the park after finishing the snacks. It all felt magical, the dim evening light, the cool breeze, shadows of the trees. Near to this was a tiny lake, and in the water's surface reflect the light . It was so peaceful and it was so beautiful. There were other families enjoying their time, chatting and laughing so the park felt even more fun.

What I Learned:

Me with Afif

On this trip, I learned a few simple but important things. Time with family is valuable. We forget to enjoy these little moments in our busy lives. These little things are the things that make life happy - Sitting in a park and eating cotton candy/jhal muri and talking with each other.

It was actually refreshing to be close to nature. It helped me ease my tired mind and feel alive.

At the time we were watching Afif just have his little fun. It reminded me how easy happy and wondrous life can be when we live by being a child again and enjoy the little things of life.

This evening finally showed me it doesn't have to be a big thing to be happy. A few hours of time with your beloved together, few simple bites and enjoying the beauty of nature together are enough make everlasting memories.
