It is hurting to note that a lot of hunters have crawled into the Body of Christ, masking themselves as shepherds. How would we recognize a hunter from a shepherd? A hunter is an opportunist who benefits from the flesh of creatures he didn't raise. He kills his game indiscriminately without thought for the well-being of the animals he kills.

A Shepherd, on the other hand, knows even the littlest insights concerning the condition of their flock. His attitude to the flock is talked about beautifully in Psalm 23.

All this occupying the office of Shepherd in the Body of Christ are told on God's desire for them in 1 Peter 5:1-4. They are relied upon to take care of the flock of God and watch over them with practically no requirements or covetousness.

Unlike a hunter that chases a kill, the shepherd must take care, safeguard and make sure the sheep are safe. He pampers the sheep and leads the sheep towards green fields. The shepherd safeguards the flock against the outer animosity of wolves and different carnivores. Jesus Christ is our ideal illustration of a shepherd.

God expects us to be good shepherds just like our Master is God shepherd. In the Body of Christ today, tragically we have unaware sheep who are being led by hunters rather than shepherds.

It is for your good to recognize the shepherds and the hunter in the Body of Christ and make sure you are not being led by a hunter. Any pastor whose basic concern is the thing that the person can get from you and not how you would be supported and built up in Christ is a Hunter. I pray that God in his mercy will open your eyes of understanding and help you to know if you are under a hunter or a shepherd.
