What do you know about back pain?

 

When we are young we never think about back pain and it feels like it is not really something really, really back until we experience it once. I heard a lot about wrong posture during working at computer or often that we are working bending forward or often that we are lifting something without paying attention to right position of our body and also to the distribution of the weight on our muscles.

I had once backache and that happened after I was helping my friend to move from her parents into the apartment. There were many boxes and the apartment was on 3d floor, of course, without any left. That is why we had to bring everything ourselves. The boxes were not too heavy but bending forward and then getting up after few boxes was too tiring. At the end of the day we had to lift and bring up a short sofa. I remember that we were three of us and such big sofa that was not really easy to bring the stairs up in narrow space. I remember after being on second floor I thought that I just may drop it but managed to bring up. That night I slept very well but the first thing that I noticed when getting up it was my back that was stiff and achy. I was not able to bend and every turning from side to side was absolutely horrible. It took about a week for me to get over that time I had a feeling that the pain will never go away.

 

What are the causes and symptoms of back pain?

 

The causes of back pain:

  • working in bending position

  • lifting something heavy from floor while being in wrong position

  • there are some diseases like kidney stones could cause pain

  • lumbar spine problems or muscular pain

  • women could have pain in lower back when they have periods

I hope that are the most common causes of them.

 

How can we prevent and treat back pain?

 

Prevent back pain is possible when we do the right things when lifting and moving something heavy, especially if it is long hours lasting work. I remember my grandmother always telling me to think about your back while I am young. Treat back pain, if it is musculoskeletal then rest, application from warmth, maybe taking warm bath or massage to relax the muscle is helpful. If it is disease then you may need doctor. Often simple painkillers okay but if pain is not settling for more than two days I would visit a doctor. Hope it helps you to avoid back pain.
