Temporary Teeth
Temporary teeth which are also known as primary teeth, are also mostly called milky teeth.
Depending on the individual, it may erupt between 6 months to 3 years of age.
The temporary teeth are always 20 in number.
They are classified into;
Incisors: Total of 8 teeth, 4 up and 4 down. Incisors are used for biting and cutting food.
Molars: Total of 8 teeth, 4 up and 4 down. Molars are used for grinding food.
Canines: Total of 4 teeth, 2 up and 2 down. Canines are used for tearing food.
The temporary teeth will start falling out between 6 to 12 years of age, for the permanent teeth to grow.
Temporary teeth help children in chewing and digest food, enabling them to get the necessary nutrients for their growth.
Temporary teeth support oral health and help prevent infections, they enable the development of healthy gum and bones.
They are placeholders for the permanent teeth, they maintain the alignment for the permanent teeth to erupt properly.
They maintain a proper jaw alignment, early extraction of the temporary teeth may lead to misalignment and other jaw issues.
While growing, as a child, the first experience I had about temporary teeth was when I was about 5 years of age.
I noticed a slight pain in my tooth and suddenly the tooth began shaking gradually. Day by day, the pain and shaking increased.
It was like that for several days, until it was almost as if it would fall out.
My peers that have had similar experiences earlier, advised me to drag it out on my own, but I insisted it just fall out on its own. It did not take long, the tooth just fell out on its own.
I did not have to go to the dentist to extract it, since it's a natural occurrence, I just let it fall out alone.
Brushing
The child's teeth should be brushed immediately after the first tooth eruption.
A soft bristle toothbrush with a small head should be used.
Used toothpaste with low fluoride content suitable for children.
Brush at least twice a day.
Diet and Nutrition
Avoid feeding the child with sugary food and drinks to prevent tooth decay.
Prevent the child from eating sticky foods to avoid getting stuck in their teeth.
Feed the child with a well-balanced diet including vegetables, and fruits.
Dental Check-ups
Provide a regular dental check-up for the child by a dentist to avoid teeth-related issues.
These health tips are essential for oral health and proper development of the temporary teeth until they fall out naturally for the permanent teeth to grow.
