The global fleet of electrical buses is already helping cities avoiding the consumption of 279,000 barrels of oil per day, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF). Diesel buses consume a unprecedented quantity of fuel compared to a passenger vehicle. Bloomberg noted that "For each 1,000 powered buses on the road, about five hundred barrels each day of fuel aredisplaced from the market."

Still, international oil consumption goesup, though perhaps not as quick as itMay be without electrical buses. according to the United States Energy information Administration (EIA), total international oil consumption inflatedfrom 96.87 million barrels per day in 2016 to 98.52 million barrels per day in 2017. The EIA projects that the planetwill consume 100.31 million barrels per day in 2018.

There's still reason for optimism though, especially given the aggressive push for electrical vehicles in some Chinese cities like Shenzhen. The country accounts for 99 % of the electrical buses within theworld (though within the country itself, solely 17 % of that fleet is electric). additionally, Bloomberg reports that "every 5 weeks, Chinese cities add 9,500 of the zero-emissions transporters—the equivalent of London’s entire operatingfleet." Those statistics appear to substantiate an earlier report from the International Energy Agency (IEA), thatnoted that in 2016, China had an extraordinary 200 million electric two-wheelers, three million to four million low-speed electrical vehicles, and over 300,000 electrical buses.
