Something went wrong with our acorn squash plant!
This had had the white spots on it I posted about earlier, which turned out to be powdery mildew. So, I removed the affected leaves so it wouldn't spread, but it seems to have "fallen over" -- perhaps I took the leaves too close to the stem, removing the supporting "leaf stem"?
Any ideas what to do at this point? It has a nice squash that's pretty much ready (protected under the plastic container in the first picture), and three or four others.
One smaller one was found chewed, so now that the woodchuck's gone there's still something getting in. Electric fence going up soon.

The garden is in a woodsy spot so could be any variety of critters in there. I don't think the leaf removal was the issue. Something attacked it!
I would have loved to have an idea on how you can solve the problem, but i don't. sorry about that.
Wouldn't have a clue... But it looks kinda dead the way it's hanging on the ground...
nice post,upvoted
Unfortunately, i have no idea , always was learning something new about gardening from you :)
And if you dilute laundry soap in water, and just water the plant with this solution? Any aphids perish at once. A plant can then be washed with running water.
Nice idea. I need to spray neem oil on them, which one mixes with soap so that the oil emulsifies; otherwise, "oil and water don't mix". Perhaps just the soap would be useful, I'll consider that.
I also need to add the kelp/seaweed liquid to the next time I water; I had lost it, but found it yesterday.
I wish you to solve this problem as soon as possible.
good luck.. fence should keep the critters out!
I just hacked back some of my plants due to the mildew and a couple did this but have now perked back up. It could just be the stress affects the plant and as long as it is still sufficiently strong it might bounce back.
Hope so! It looks worse today, I'm considering harvesting the remaining smaller acorn squash tomorrow...
Sometimes you do have to just cut the losses and take what you can get.
Yeah, that's what I did. I'll make a post later today, took some sad pictures. But then got a cucumber, and several cherry and grape tomatoes, so one picture looks like a harvest smile (it's on a "Homer" bucket lid).
Hmmmm not too sure about that one. Perhaps do you have stem boring bugs in your area?
Those bugs just drone on and on, and the stems get bored and decide to give it up? :)
No, not that I know of.
