RE: [18 Sep ’19] Five things I have done today to help the planet - the Electric Car arrived!
I love hazelnuts too! There is a native type here called beaked hazelnut. The squirrels prefer it so my plan is to grow a bunch of it and then also some cultivars in other areas for my own use. Since squirrels prefer the native type I'm hoping they will let me get a good number of hazelnuts. Only 3 cultivars so far but the plan is to eventually plant a good 100+ plus an equal amount of the native ones.
Congrats on the car! I have a hybrid but I'm interested in an electric one day...
About the slugs... trying looking up what eats them in your area. Here there are a number of slug predators that I do my best to encourage. Rock piles for garter snakes and plenty of woody debris for a black beattle that eats slug eggs. I'm also reducing the amount of grass I have--the slugs seem to hangout in the grassy areas.
Since moving to my place almost 3 years ago I have seen a big reduction in slugs by taking these actions. I also do slug patrols when my vegetables are small but stop once they are big enough to deal with some slug munching.
Thanks for sharing!
