It's amazing the difference switching off at the mains actually makes. At night, the only things runing in our house are the fridge, freezer and the cordless phone. Our bills are probably a quarter of what many pay for the same, and sometimes less, amount of people in a household. When we stayed with our friends a few years ago, their house was positively humming constantly, with all the things they had on standby.

Glad you're getting on top of those slugs. I use a similar method myself. The slugs here can hold their beer too well and rarely fall in and drown. This year we've had an increase in snails again, too.

With the shaving, you reminded me how my grandfather, and father many years ago, used to use a shaving pot and brush, with the soap on top. Wet the brush and rub it on the soap to get the foam, then shave. Sometimes I think we got it right, then lost it again. Surely it was cheaper than buying cans of shaving cream all the time.
