farmersmarket-challenge
Holland, Michigan is on the Eastern Shore of Lake Michigan.
It's 8th Street Farmer's Market is open Wednesday & Saturday mornings from May-October.
It's early in the season, so not too busy yet.
June is the beginning of the Strawberries.
The vendors are friendly and helpful. Did you know it takes a gallon of water to produce 1 quart of Strawberries?
These are the hands of a man who works for a living. This is not his hobby.
This early in the season, there are more flowers than actual produce.
Hanging baskets bring the colors of Spring home.
Herbs and young plants are also available to bring home and transplant.
Consistent wind from Lake Michigan helps power the market.
It wouldn't be complete without some tasty baked goods.
Provided by local Mennonites.
Artisan Goat milk soaps.
And a variety of smiles.
This looks so similar to our farmers market in Saint Paul. Look at those smiles (and those cookies!) Thanks for participating in our challenge.
You probably get longer cold spells in the winter.
Both areas have pretty big Nordic/Scandinavian population bases too.
The pics were taken on Wed morning.
We went back today, my son wanted more pies from the Mennonites for his birthday and it was absolutely packed with people and probably twice as many vendors.
I actually couldn't manage to get any more pics this morning.
