THE REMNANTS
"AND THE LORD SAID TO HIM, “Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, AND PUT A MARK ON THE FOREHEADS OF THE MEN WHO SIGH AND CRY OVER ALL THE ABOMINATIONS THAT ARE DONE WITHIN IT.”
Ezekiel 9:4 (NKJV)
God would always spare the remnants. Usually there are some people who would not agree or support or join the evil, the abominable things, being done by the multitude in a place, city, or nation. In the above passage of the Bible, such people are said to be marked for safety and preservation, because in their hearts, they did not support or join the abominable things that were being done by the people of the land—the Israelites.
The people of the world usually say, If you cannot beat them, you join them. This statement is not for a professed believer, the people of God. You do not join people to do evils or wrong things; you rather stay or stand as a light in the midst of darkness, light in the midst of evil things that are being done by the multitude:
14 “YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. A CITY THAT is SET ON A HILL CANNOT BE HIDDEN. 15 NOR DO THEY LIGHT A LAMP AND PUT IT UNDER A BASKET, BUT ON A LAMPSTAND, AND IT GIVES LIGHT TO ALL WHO ARE IN THE HOUSE. 16 LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE BEFORE MEN, THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD WORKS AND GLORIFY YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN" (Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV).
What makes God angry or sad should equally make you angry or sad. In the text, those who were to be marked for protection or preservation were those who are not happy about the dirty things in the society; corruptions, idolatry, religious harlotry, injustices, and many other things that were becoming the Norm, In the land—Israel.
When you are not happy with the evils and perversions in the society, It means you are seeing, or thinking, like God. You are seeing from God's point of view, and that makes you one of the remnants. But If you joined them in what they are doing, or you delighted in it, approved them in your heart, saying, it is modernization; It means you are also guilty of that same perversion or the evil that is prevalent in the society—the sins being committed by the people: "WHO, KNOWING THE RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT OF GOD, THAT THOSE WHO PRACTICE SUCH THINGS ARE DESERVING OF DEATH, NOT ONLY DO THE SAME BUT ALSO APPROVE OF THOSE WHO PRACTICE THEM" (Romans 1:32 NKJV).
There is always a day of reckoning, and God would spare those who are His; those who are loyal to Him and live by the principles of His Word, as a person spares his or her Jewel:
16 THEN THOSE WHO FEARED THE LORD SPOKE WITH EACH OTHER, AND THE LORD LISTENED TO WHAT THEY SAID. IN HIS PRESENCE, A SCROLL OF REMEMBRANCE WAS WRITTEN TO RECORD THE NAMES OF THOSE WHO FEARED HIM AND ALWAYS THOUGHT ABOUT THE HONOUR OF HIS NAME. 17 “THEY WILL BE MY PEOPLE,” SAYS THE LORD OF HEAVEN'S ARMIES. “ON THE DAY WHEN I ACT IN JUDGMENT, THEY WILL BE MY OWN SPECIAL TREASURE. I WILL SPARE THEM AS A FATHER SPARES AN OBEDIENT CHILD. 18 THEN YOU WILL AGAIN SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED, BETWEEN THOSE WHO SERVE GOD AND THOSE WHO DO NOT” (Malachi 3:16-18 NLT).
Are you among the remnants or you have also joined them? One rhetorical question that Jesus asked when He shared the parable of a widow and the unjust judge: 'HOWEVER, WHEN THE SON OF MAN COMES, WILL HE FIND [this kind of persistent] FAITH ON THE EARTH?” (Luke 18:8 Amps).
Peace.
