RE: Microblog: I'm OUT! Jury duty over
Glad you made it through, jury duty can be a horrible PIA. Here they call you as needed, so you can get it fairly often. The last one I was in the pool on was a capital case so I got a 2 year exemption from any sort of duty.
I'll be watching with interest to see how your upvote program works for you...
just 2 years???? Where do you live?
Arizona. Yuma County.
Ahhh, just a question but how far do you live from the courthouse? Does that distance play a role in why it's 2 years? Or is it more about population?
Population plays a huge part. Our annual population for the county is like 200,000. Our winter population is 500,000. And the age of the population. Everybody over 75 is exempt, over 10% of the population.
You are called for a panel. Each panel is for 6 months. The judges and DA estimate the pool need for each trial. I've had a lot of panels that I didn't even have to go to the courthouse. It's not so bad, except for making plans :)
It's really interesting how internally diverse this country is. Beyond it's people but the variation of laws, etc. Fascinating...
