Citizen Science: Project FeederWatch -- Week #09 Report 2021-2022 Season

This week's featured birds are a Downy Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Blue Jay, and Northern Cardinal.

I typically watch and count birds on Saturday and Sunday. This is my report for 8-9 January 2022.

House Sparrow (Passer domesticus, ORDER: Passeriformes, FAMILY: Passeridae)

The House Sparrow waits its turn for seed from the feeders.

Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis, ORDER: Passeriformes, FAMILY: Cardinalidae)

The Northern Cardinal also watch for seeds to fall from the feeders. This is a photograph of a female Northern Cardinal.

Red-Bellied Woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus, ORDER: Piciformes, FAMILY: Picidae)

The Red-bellied Woodpecker is a regular at the peanut feeder.

Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata, ORDER: Passeriformes, FAMILY: Corvidae)

The Blue Jay has been very flighty and difficult to photograph. This photograph was taken in less than idea lighting conditions.
