Holy place - Masjid Raya Pase Panton Labu
My return trip from Kuala Simpang to Lhokseumawe took me to the Pase Grand Mosque in Panton Labu, North Aceh. The mosque is an architectural masterpiece that combines classic splendor with a modern touch. Located on the edge of the Medan-Banda Aceh Road, the Great Mosque of Pase is not only a place of worship, but also an icon of pride for the people of North Aceh.

Based on the information I got, the Great Mosque of Pase was established in 1972 and since then it has become the center of activities for the Al-Jamiatus Samadiyah congregation.
Every Saturday night, the congregation gathers at this mosque to perform dhikr, prayers and tahlil together. The mosque also symbolizes the glory of the Pase Islamic kingdom and was founded at the brainchild of community leader Muhammad Ansari, known as Harun Kumis.
As I approach the mosque, my gaze is immediately drawn to the towering green domes and small minarets surrounding it, as if welcoming any traveler who passes by. After undergoing rehabilitation and expansion, the Great Mosque of Pase now appears more magnificent with stunning architecture.

Back when I was in high school, this mosque looked dull and unattractive. However, after extensive renovations, the Great Mosque of Pase is now one of the most beautiful mosques in North Aceh.
The mosque's architecture is grand and modern, with sparkling colors that captivate the heart. The ablution area is strategically located close to the parking lot, making it more convenient for worshipers. The expansion of the mosque courtyard also allows for more vehicles to be parked, easing access for worshipers.
The mosque has three main doors: right, left and back. I enter through the large back door, similar to a shop door, with classic-modern yellowish wood carvings. The carvings add a grand and warm impression to the entrance.

After entering the mosque, I immediately performed the Asr prayer. After the prayer, I observed many people doing beritikaf in the mosque. In addition, some worshipers were busy reading the Qur'an, while others were resting.
I also noticed every architectural detail inside the mosque. Cream and golden yellow colors dominate every corner, creating a cozy atmosphere. The mosque's mihrab is not overly decorated with calligraphy, having only simple wall carvings, unlike most other mosques that are usually decorated with colorful calligraphy.
However, I was a little disappointed that the green dome at the top didn't seem to match the color of the interior. The crystal chandelier in the center of the dome also looks small, which detracts from the beauty seen from the outside. The calligraphy of Asmaul Husna around the dome looks quite simple. Perhaps this part of the dome has not been the focus of previous renovations.

The floor of the mosque is covered with large granite tiles that give a cool sensation, adding to the comfort when worshiping. Unfortunately, this mosque is not equipped with air conditioning, there is only a hanging fan that is less effective in reaching the entire room. However, the cool air from the ceramic floor still makes the atmosphere of the mosque feel comfortable when worshiping.
Masjid Raya Pase also provides modern donation facilities through barcode scanning, in addition to conventional charity boxes. Every evening, the mosque becomes the center of community activities with iftar and regular recitations featuring renowned preachers in North Aceh.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information board about the preacher's schedule, which I think is a shortcoming of this mosque. Complete information would certainly make it easier for worshipers to follow the activities at the mosque.
Overall, Masjid Raya Pase is a beautiful blend of classic and modern architecture. Despite some minor caveats, it remains a comfortable place of worship and an important center of community activity in North Aceh.
