Shuvalov Palace on the corner of Italian Street and Malaya Sadovaya Street is the mansion of the Russian statesman, patron of art, founder of the State Moscow University and the Academy of Arts Ivan Ivanovich Shuvalov. Shuvalov was the favorite of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. The land on which the palace is located in the middle of the 18th century belonged to Ivan Ivanovich Shuvalov. Therefore, a mansion was built for him in this territory in 1753 - 1755 years. The author of the construction project was the architect Savva Ivanovich Chevakinsky.

In the walls of his palace Ivan Ivanovich Shuvalov kept and exhibited his collection of paintings.
In the 1770s, the new owner of the palace became the Prosecutor General of the Senate Alexander Vyazemsky.

At the end of the 18th century, the building entered the state's jurisdiction and until 1917 it housed the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Empire, and later the Provisional Government.
