He was Cesar Rafael, a young man with health, very happy and eloquent, able to get a smile out of the most bitter, very witty and intelligent, hardworking and smart, but on top of all that he was my friend, last night he left this plantation, and today the pain seizes my being, he had been calling me repeatedly to invite me to his new home to share with his family and for our children to finally meet, today that will not be possible, because he is gone! He has left for a place that many describe as something better (as if some of us who are alive today knew what it is like there).

Today we are, tomorrow we do not know, that is why and although it sounds trite, we must live fully every day, every moment, tell our loved ones how much we love them, enjoy every smile, every detail and every word that we share with our relatives, friends, partner, because in the end, when it is our turn to leave, we will only take a suit that even we do not choose, and those memories are those that will remain engraved in the memory of those who stay and have more value than anything else.

In less than a week I have had to say goodbye to two very close people, an old friend of my father's who left quickly and took us by surprise and today this good friend who leaves a great pain to all of us who have been his friends, and of course to his son and family. Today I regret not having attended each of the invitations he made me to share with him and his family, and even with other friends, and not only that, I regret all the times I have left a friend behind, or have rejected an invitation because of laziness to attend or because I did not want to leave my comfort zone.

Life is putting us on the road to people who are leaving traces in it, some are good and others not so good, but each one leaves us a learning and is in our life for a specific reason, of that I have no doubt, it is in us to learn from each of them and take that learning to grow as human beings. From Cesar, without a doubt, I am left with his ideas, his joy and his eternal desire to learn, above all.

Not everyone can afford to have good friends, but those who do, should value them and love them, because in many cases they become the family we choose, and with whom we often share more than with our blood relatives. Today I invite you to embrace the friend you have close, or write or call the one you have far away, the same with our parents, children and siblings, never stop showing them how important they are to us, we do not know when will be the last time we will have the opportunity to do so.

Él era Cesar Rafael, un joven con salud, muy alegre y elocuente, capaz de sacarle una sonrisa al más amargado, muy ocurrente e inteligente, trabajador e inteligente, pero además de todo eso era mi amigo, anoche partió de este planto, y hoy el dolor embarga mi ser, me había estado llamando en repetidas oportunidades para invitarme a su nuevo hogar a compartir con su familia y que nuestros hijos por fin se conocieran, ¡Hoy eso no será posible, porque ya no está! Ha partido a un sitio que muchos describen como algo mejor (como si alguno de los que hoy estamos vivos, supieran como es allí).

Hoy estamos, mañana no sabemos, por eso y aunque suene trillado, hay que vivir a plenitud cada día, cada instante, decirle a nuestros seres queridos cuanto los amamos, disfrutar cada sonrisa, cada detalle y cada palabra que compartimos con nuestros allegado, familiares, amigos, pareja, porque al final, cuando nos toque partir, solo nos llevaremos un traje que ni siquiera nosotros escogemos, y esos recuerdos son los que quedaran grabados en la memoria de los que se quedan y tienen más valor que cosa.

En menos de una semana me ha tocado despedir a dos personas muy cercanas, un viejo amigo de mi padre que partió rápidamente y nos tomó por sorpresa y hoy a este buen amigo que deja un dolor muy grande a todos los que hemos sido sus amigos, y por supuesto a su hijo y familia. Hoy me arrepiento de no haber asistido a cada una de las invitaciones que él me hizo para compartir con él y su familia, e incluso con otros amigos, y no solo eso, me arrepiento de todas las veces que he dejado plantado a algún amigo, o haber rechazado alguna invitación por pereza de asistir o por no querer salir de mi zona de confort.

La vida nos va poniendo en el camino a personas que van dejando huellas en ella, algunas son buenas y otras no tanto, pero cada uno nos deja un aprendizaje y está en nuestra vida por un motivo especifico, de eso no me queda la menor duda, está en nosotros aprender de cada uno de ellos y tomar ese aprendizaje para crecer como seres humanos. De Cesar sin duda me quedo con sus ocurrencias, su alegría y sus eternas ganas de aprender, sobre todo.

No todos pueden darse el lujo de tener buenos amigos, pero quien los tiene creo que debe valorarlos y amarlos, pues en muchos casos estos se convierten en la familia que escogemos, y con quienes en muchas ocasiones compartimos más que con nuestros consanguíneos. Hoy te invito a abrazar al amigo que tienes cerca, o a escribir o llamar al que tienes lejos, igual con nuestros padres, hijos y hermanos, no dejemos nunca de demostrarles cuan importantes son para nosotros, no sabemos cuándo será la última vez que tendremos la oportunidad de hacerlo.
