Arcade City Update: Will it be Biggest Ether App?

in #arcade-city8 years ago (edited)

A coin telegraph article made me we want to research Arcade City a bit. Here are some related links I found!

First, the one that made me do some research. Arcade City excited people in decentralized community. Their new ap that debuted 2 weeks ago still has not resulted in any rides according to this coin telegraph article. According to the article

however, at the launch the app did not initially allow any rides to be arranged. Instead, this functionality supposedly lies behind “unlocking” cities by building a critical mass of support from potential riders and drivers.

I think Austin will come online soon, we'll see if it can beat back stiff competition

There are lots of competing platforms in Austin

see CNBC article

Wingz is a San Francisco-based start-up backed by Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. Now in 12 U.S. cities, the company launched in Austin the day Uber and Lyft pulled the plug

RideAustin, which launched on June 16, sends all of its profits either to drivers or reinvests them in the business. 89 percent of driver hours are performed by a fingerprinted person,

Some think Arcade City is doomed

But when Fusion looked into David’s background, we found a past pervaded by failed start-ups and former colleagues who claim he’s broken promises and failed repeatedly to pay back debts, casting doubt on the future success of Arcade City in Austin.

Or it could be a big user of ethreum

This is a nice in depth article.

We have our reasons for drawing on the best of both worlds. We didn’t want to just throw up an Ethereum ridesharing Dapp to Github that no one would actually use. We decided to start by answering the burning issues facing today’s rideshare drivers, which we were able to quickly address by relying on social media and more traditional technologies, rapidly iterating to develop a model that works. Our Austin push taught us valuable lessons about how to structure our model going forward, for example- the power of community and group-forming networks.

other wallets?

We are starting with Bitcoin support via Airbitz. Every rider and driver automatically gets a Bitcoin wallet when they signup through our app. We expect to integrate with Shapeshift.io for other coin support probably sometime this fall, depending on user demand. And of course, drivers can always transact however they want, peer-to-peer.

Honestly most of these 269 ethereum aps do not look like they have large addressable markets

And even fewer are up and running

(1) augur

Augur attempts accurate forecasting via a decentralised, voluntary group
Ethereum seems like a. A good way to implement and maybe this could be pervasive someday

(2) vDice.io: a gamblin ap

Gambling is still one of the biggest industries for Bitcoin. With the unique properties of Ethereum, it would be reasonable to expect the same.
Maybe building a gambling sites with ethreum is cheaper than alternatives

(3) Oraclize:

A lot of Dapps use and will use oracles. The best and most advanced in the ecosystem is Oraclize, a bridge between smart contracts and the internet
This seems useful as a building block to something else so maybe it could be big

Maybe I don't understand The others on the list don't seem like they could be that big.

Arcade City, if it works could dwarf this list!

We see what happens!
