"Humanitarian Services".
Introduction |
---|
Humanitarian, as the word is, is related to seeking the welfare of others. This is reaching out to the needy. Especially the less privileged and people who are thrown into involuntary emergency situations.

What Do You Understand By Humanitarian Services? |
---|
Just as I've mentioned, humanitarian services have to do with seeking other people's welfare. Humanitarian services are the service or support we give to disaster victims or certain people during emergency situations like disasters, e.g flood victims. Humanitarian services can be in the form of giving relief materials such as food, drugs, material items and even provision of accommodation for the victims. It can also be in terms of rendering services like cleanups.
How Should Humanitarian Services Be Rendered And To Who? |
---|
Humanitarian services should be rendered with the right motive, not to show off, or to gain popularity or show affluence. It should be rendered in love and out of selflessness just to aid or give people a lift and to put smiles on their faces as their situations may be temporary.

Humanitarian services should be rendered to the following:
Less privileged (homeless people)
Disaster victims, for example, flood and fire outbreak victims, which are usually common in my locality.
Victims of emergency situations like war/conflict victims and people attacked by bandits or terrorists, as is the case here in Nigeria. People attacked by Boko Haram terrorists are usually moved from their original homes due to constant attacks to a temporary camp. These are examples of people that humanitarian services should be rendered to.

Have You Participated In Any Humanitarian Services, Share Your Experience. |

Yes, I participated in humanitarian services while I was serving in the compulsory Nigerian Youth Service Corps (NYSC). My group built toilets in the old people's homes, and we also visited the orphanage to send gifts to the less privileged. We also carried out cleaning up of streets and marketplaces. This was a voluntary service no one paid for.
