As you all know, learning happens best through some activities. When you prepare some good worksheets for your students and support your lessons with lots of creative materials, they will be more interested in your lessons. Today, I would like to show you one example of teaching comparisons in English language to your students. Just writing rules on the board never works, so I hope this post will be useful for you.
It is crucial to choose an appealing topic to get your students' attention. I prefer to teach comparisons with a reading material as they can see how they are used in a text. When you let them read a text which is full of comparisons, they will learn the rules naturally without asking for your help. Modern teaching requires this.
Reading text
As our reading is about teenagers who are completely different, it is a good idea to start the activity with some warm-up questions. You may ask them how they were when they were teenagers. When your students think about those years that they used to be teenagers, they will probably remember some adjectives which you can also use in your reading worksheet.
When they are done with their answers and discuss about the topic, you may start to explain them what they need to do with the following reading. You may tell them that there are two teenagers in this text. You can also direct them some questions related to text to make them use comparisons after reading.

Emily and Sarah
Emily and Sarah are two sisters who are 14 and 16 which means that they are both teenagers. It is hard for their families to deal with their problems. Emily is more mature than Sarah even though Emily is younger than her sister. However, Sarah is more successful at school than Emily. Emily still needs to improve herself at school. Another bad thing about Emily is she is more selfish than Sarah.
Their parents are having a really hard time to meet their needs. Even though Sarah is more sensible than Emily, Emily is more confident than her sister. All these things show us one thing. They both have their own negative and positive sides. Comparing them is really hard. Over all, Sarah is as important as Emily for their parents.
Practice!
Just reading is not enough to help our students improve themselves. As I said before, you may ask your students to compare two teenagers whom they have read about in the text above. When they want to compare those girls, they will surely have to use comparative adjectives which is an amazing way of practicing what they have just learned.
In addition to this, I usually show a picture on the board which has lots of people with different features. I suggest my students a role-play game. If you have a look at the fourth image I have shared above, you may get a better understanding of what I am telling. Each students in call can describe one person without telling the name and others can try to guess who that person is. It is a funny and educative way of learning comparisons.

Thanks for this, will see if it can be used. May I suggest something that I used to use: blobs of paint splashed or dabbed or got on to paper anyhow, then leave to dry; when dry draw around the edges with black pen to make whatever the imagination can see...
