One more sleep til SteemFest
Well it is finally here, SteemFest 2018 and I am not ready at all. I have so many things to do it is crazy but, it is what it is and I will get them done enough so that I will survive the trip. If I forget anything I will just borrow from @anomadsoul and @abh12345. I think Asher is 6'6" and 180kg so we are about the same size and it should be fine.
I was thinking about it last night and obviously I am not likely to be able to spend as long posting but since I haven't traveled fat all for about three years, I will use the opportunity to take some photos and post some thoughts from throughout the week. I am looking forward to sitting in on some of the talks and of course getting the chance to speak directly with people. I am also interested to see how it is going to work in the AirBnB with a group of guys, I have never done that also but there is a first time for everything I guess.
Auschwitz is on the very short list of planned locations besides the formal and informal SteemFest events themselves. I am not quite sure what to expect there but places with such known and terrible history are always met with an air of expectation of some kind, but it is hard to predict what will actually be felt. I am not much of a landmark travel enthusiast and I am always surprised by what I feel once there, whether it be the grandness of the Eiffel Tower or the somber internalization of walking through the attic of the Anne Frank house. I try to keep an open travel mind.
One thing that is a bit of a worry is that I only have two batteries for my camera and one is playing up a little so I am hoping that I don't get caught anywhere without charge, that is my photography nightmare. That and missing or full memory cards, broken lenses and missing shots I really want to take. I am not sure what I am expecting to get from the trip. I bought an external battery but that will only charge my phone.
I also have to cook a lot of foods still for my daughter so my wife doesn't have to be too stressed over the week, I have done some the last two days but it is an endless process. My daughter and I spent the entire weekend together as my wife was studying which was great but, I have no idea what to tell a two year old that I will be gone for a week who comes into the bedroom to wake me up if I am not there for breakfast.
I am going to miss her a lot.
I can already feel it just thinking about it.
I should go and pack and make sure I have everything and, try to cut my hair so I don't look like a hippy and try to get myself organized so it isn't a rush at 3 am in the morning when I have to wake for the trip to Helsinki. So for the next week or so, expect a bit of a different view of blogging life just in case. Who know though, it might all be the same and I will spend my time holed up in the corner writing or perhaps after learning about the future at SteemFest, I will realize that posting memes is the way forward to fulfilling all of our hopes and dreams.
Hot off the press...
I am flying Norwegian Airlines and my wife read from the news that the police just arrested one of their pilots for being drunk while flying. Auspicious start.
Oh, I meant ominous.
Ominous start.
See you in and from Krakow :)

Thanks mate, should be a bit of fun.
Safe travels man! Wish I could go to Poland to see it all. Excited to see some photos and stories!
Photos sure but... what happens at SteemFest will likely be lost to the incompetent search and discover functions of Steem ;D
Gonna have to manually type a lot of @usernames into the browser URL bar, no doubt... sighs :p
Ok rule # 1, relax and enjoy the moment
You and your family are in my thoughts.
Don’t forget to buy a gift for the two special girls and not at the airport on the way back
Have fun
I will do my best. I will send you pictures from Auschwitz unlike that ass of a therapist you have :D
Same that way.
I have no idea what I am going to do for this :)
Keep the gift personal and it will not be a problem
Auschwitz is an eye opening experience. It is good to see it,things like that should never be forgotten
Be safe mate
I was chatting with a couple of friends on Friday - one who visited Auschwitz recently, the other whose been to Dachau (his granfather actually died there!)
If you have a relative who was a victim they apparently find their name in the 'death registrar' and research into the likely cause of death for you.
It sounds emotional to say the least. On both accounts 'nothing can prepare you for it'.
They convinced me to go, so I've changed my Saturday option. Somewhat auspicious date too.

It is definitely not going to be the kind of place full of chuckles. My plan is to focus on trying to get some photos that capture the feel of it. For me, it is my memory device.
I think it is a good choice.
Me too. You know it when something 'feels right'.

6 1, and my clothes are to be packed so I'm wearing the last clean items next Tuesday - 8 kg limit, the case being one of those. Hopefully they have towels!
Auschwitz is likely going to make me feel somber and withdrawn, like the killing fields in Cambodia did. And then there was karaoke.....
It's also been a while since I've shared a house with people, I think we'll be out and about most of the time anyway and I have my earplugs sorted.
See you tomorrow evening :)
You are 6 6 in my head.
Yes, it is going to be a bit of a contrast. I am not sure which one is going to make me sadder.
See you soon :)
I'm wondering what the other options to singing are. Although, it could make good blog/vlog material :)
Looking forward to meet in Krakow @tarazkp! Wonderfull you did as many to unburden (Not sure if this is the right english word for it...) your wife from the cooking for your daughter. I hope your wife can give her some extra hugs the week you're away from home. In Krakow we can take care of the hugs if you're having a hard time! 🤗
What camera you're carrying with you? Maybe some other Steemians have a spare battery when you run out!
Hang loose 🤙
Should be a great week of meetups
I am sharing a house with a group of guys so I am going to try and keep the spooning to a minimum :)
I have an Olympus EM-1. Not many carry an Olympus these days :)
Ouch Olympus... not many people with those camera's indeed. But it's a beautifull camera! Think I would love to try the camera, if you would like to share and allow me to try if a few minutes of course. It's been a long time ago I shoot with an Oly. What lenses you have?
The spooning I can imagine, but spooning is not what I was talking about, at least I think a hug is way different🤣
Because it is a mirrorless, the lenses are smaller and lighter than a SLR. I will carry a 12-40 2.8, a 40-150 and a 1.7 20mm prime with me. I changed to a mirrorless Olympus from Canon because of size and weight while travelling. If I had the same set up with my canon, it would be all of my carry on ;)
Of course you can have a go, just find me, I'll be around :)
Money, tickets and passport. Really looking forward to seeing what comes out of this year's proceedings. Enjoy.

Can't wait to see you again, Taraz! It's gonna be a blast :D
Looking forward to it mate :)
it;s the sober pilots you can't trust:) looking forward to the stories
I think the drinking helps to judge the wind better right?
yeah that' sounds good lol.
Thanks for sharing this photography
