🏵️THE DIARY GAME 🏵️

The day was the day after Eid. Usually, everyone is busy going out after Eid, but I couldn’t go as I had work in the field.

This year, we had cultivated some onions. However, the yield was not as good as expected. Hiring laborers to do the work would be quite expensive, so we decided to harvest the onions ourselves with the help of one worker. As planned, we went to the field early in the morning the day after Eid. The field was still covered in mist, and the dewdrops on the plants sparkled like pearls, creating a beautiful sight.

Then, our work began. We started harvesting the onions. Pulling them out of the soil was a relatively easy task—just a firm tug on the plants would bring them up. However, since we were late in harvesting, some plants had dried up, making it necessary to use a sickle to pull them out. We carefully continued collecting the onions.

Once harvested, we spread the onions on the ground to dry properly in the field. Since we didn’t have enough open space at home to dry them under the sun, it was better to let them dry in the field. These were native onions, which could be stored indoors for a long time. To preserve them properly, they needed to be dried well. Since these onions were from our own cultivation, we decided to store them for future use so that we wouldn’t have to buy onions later. Additionally, we planned to keep the smaller onions as seeds for the next season so that we could cultivate onions again next year.

While harvesting the onions, we encountered a major problem. The field was full of thorny plants, which made collecting the onions quite difficult. If the thorns pricked our hands, they would cause pain and irritation later. Because of this, we had to pause our onion harvesting and start clearing the thorns first. We carefully removed all the thorny plants from the field.

By the time we finished, it was already time for breakfast. So, we decided to head home for our meal. On our way back, we carried the thorny plants with us, as they serve as good fodder for goats and cows. Once home, I fed the thorny plants to the goats. They eagerly ate them, and as a result, I didn’t need to provide them with any additional grass that day. The goats fed on the thorny plants throughout the day.

The worker who was with us worked effortlessly. He was used to working in the fields, so he did not feel any difficulty. However, today I realized something important—farmers who depend on agriculture for their livelihood endure immense hardship. Unfortunately, the upper-class society often fails to recognize their struggles. In my opinion, farmers should be given the highest respect in our country. Our agriculture-based nation survives because of their hard work, and we must never forget their contributions.

Gradually, our onion harvesting was almost complete. However, we couldn’t finish the entire field today—there was still a small portion left. So, we decided to stop for the day and continue harvesting the remaining onions the next day. Accordingly, we started packing the harvested onions into sacks. Since our field was quite far from home, carrying them in sacks was the only option. We then transported the onions home.

Through today’s work, I gained a new experience in agriculture. Although it was physically exhausting, it felt rewarding. After personally experiencing the hardships of farming, my respect for farmers has grown even more. I hope you, too, will always honor and appreciate the farmers of this country.
