A Dream Dreamt
Does Not Forge Reality, Nor
A Dream Dreamt
Shadows of Feelings
Always Darker, Emptier
The Dream That Is Real
It's The Dreaming
3 days ago @metametheus wrote You Can Dream, he writes about how its rare that he recalls a dream, so when he recalls he pays attention to it. But it was at the end of the post where he poses a challenge to the reader:
So here is my challenge to you
Share with us your most vivid, prophetic, and inspiring dream in the comments.
I'm the opposite, I am able to recall my dream often. At times I've been overwhelmed by my dreaming. In my early 20s, I was practicing Toltec dreaming, experimenting and having misadventures in The Dreamtime. It became too much for me that I had to stop. I had one experience, in which I felt like I had spent 3 years in a Dreamtime area, only to wake up to find out it was just a night and that I had to go to work in 2 hours. In order to function, I had to press pause on my Dreamtime Adventures.
There have been so many vivid, prophetic, and inspiring dreams. But I guess I will share with you my first really strange dream experience that made me really started to pay attention to them.
It was the First semester of freshman year in high school, I had this really vivid dream. It was so vivid that it felt more like a memory than a dream. It was about me having a class in this new lab, really mundane, like any other day at school. Once I woke up I was kind of confused, was that a dream or was that a memory?
That morning I was trying to make sense of this vivid experience. I was recalling my memory, those are my classmates but it doesn't add up because I don't have a class in that lab or with the same people that made up that class. Very strange because it really felt like it happened.
After that, I went on with my day and began to 'forgot' about the dream. Then came my last semester and I was in my new technology lab, with my new classmates. And it was when we were getting our midterm grade, that the teacher was calling us individually to his desk to review our grades. I was playing around and was making a joke about a classmate that was in his office, reviewing his grade with the teacher. The student was a big Starwars fan, so my joke was as he waved his hand, this is not the grade I was looking for(he was also a very bad student). But it was that motion of my hand like a Jedi that sparked the recall of my dream at the beginning of the year.
I had this weird prophetic dejavu experience where the dream was playing in my mind's eye as the scene was unfolding before my very eyes. There was a slight delay, the scene in my mind would be playing and then my classmates will echo the motions that I just saw in my mind. It was a strange experience, and if I'm honest, it freaked me the fuck out. It still is a very powerful experience and moves me to this day to do some of the stuff I do.
The moments of déjà vu were coming more frequently, now. Moments would stutter and hiccup and falter and repeat. Sometimes whole mornings would repeat. Once I lost a day. Time seemed to be breaking down entirely. ― Neil Gaiman
So cosmic giggle of cosmic giggles, I woke up this morning and I was writing an email to a special someone, and I had this deja vu. And been having this strange feeling for some time now. I have been studying my own dreams and Dream theory, for a long time now. Ever since freshman year in which I had this deja vu dream, it shocked and scared the shit out of me. But after I got over the whole, am I going mad? I started to pay attention and research what strange structures and functions happen behind the scene of our operating system we call the Mind.
In Dynamics of Hyperspace, a dialogue by Ralph Abraham and Terence McKenna, Santa Cruz, CA, June 1983:
Terence: What I mean by a new map of hyperspace is this: I think that we've come to a place with the psychedelic experience where the validation of the maps of inner space that Freud and Jung put forward in the first half of this century are not valid or complete enough. In other words, LSD validated very well the Freudian concept of the inner universe; it seemed to validate ideas about repression and trauma and the need to dredge material out of the unconscious.
Ralph: And that's what you were thinking of as the old maps? Freud and Jung...?
Terence: Exactly. And more recent data that comes out of the psilocybin and DMT experience doesn't seem relevant to the human superconscious, unconscious or subconscious. It seems to be more like an objective manifold that lies beyond the personality or any human dimension, yet is accessible through these compounds.
Dr. Strassman and other Researchers speculate the DMT is released in our brains during birth, death, and dreams. It is also a naturally occurring 'tryptamine'. Tryptamines are a group of substances found in nature that mimic the chemical structure of serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter in the human brain - and one that plays a very important role indeed. Its job is believed to includes the regulation of mood, memory, and sleep. We don't yet fully understand the relation of DMT, Consciousness, Dreams, and Memory, but research is on-going.
So this brings us back to Dreams and how they have been held with importance in numerous world cultures throughout history and often connected with aspects of a person’s soul or ancestors. But also western society has often dismissed them as irrelevant to your life experience and best ignored. Which really lead me to freak out and thought there was something wrong with my mind when I had my strange dream experience. Which is why am so interested in New Maps of Hyperspace.
What I find really interesting is that Western Society has a rich history of great thinkers have been influenced by their dreams including Albert Einstein who had a dream that helped the creation of his Theory of Relativity and Rene Descartes who had a series of dreams that helped develop the scientific method. Many more examples of dream inspired creation exist that suggest the content of dreams are valuable and should not be so easily dismissed as nonsense. But also that information can be access via nonlocal ways and how we really don't know how it all works.
I love what Terence Mckenna said once about Descartes Dream
...on the night of September 16th, Descartes had a dream and in this dream an angel appeared to him, this is documented by his own hand, and the angel said to Descartes, "The conquest of nature is to be achieved through measure and number." And that revelation lay the basis for modern science. Rene Descartes is the founder of the distinction between the res verins and the res extensia, the founder of modern science, the founder of the scientific method that created the philosophical engines that created the modern world. How many scientists, working at their workbenches, understand that an angel chartered modern science?...
Now Descartes wasn't the only one to have this high strangeness, where dreams leaked there way into to reality. The tale of Human History is filled with examples of this. Let's take a look at Albert Einstein's The Speed of Light. As it happens, he came to the extraordinary scientific achievement - discovering the principle of relativity - after having a vivid dream.
As a young man, Einstein dreamed he was sledding down a steep mountainside, going so fast that eventually, he approached the speed of light. As this moment, the stars in his dream changed their appearance in relation to him. He awoke and meditated on this idea, soon formulating what would become one of the most famous scientific theories in the history of mankind.
And now let's take a look at The father of quantum mechanics Niels Bohr, he often spoke of the inspirational dream that led to his discovery of the structure of the atom.
In time, he set upon understanding the structure of the atom, but none of his configurations would fit. One night he went to sleep and began dreaming about atoms. He saw the nucleus of the atom, with electrons spinning around it, much as planets spin around their sun...Immediately on awakening, Bohr felt the vision was accurate. But as a scientist, he knew the importance of validating his idea before announcing it to the world. He returned to his lab and searched for evidence to support his theory.
It held true - and Bohr's vision of atomic structure turned out to be one of the greatest breakthroughs in scientific history.
What does this all mean? Beats the hell out of me! But just maybe its something close to what Dennis McKenna wrote once,
Those who regularly navigate the hyperspatial landscape that some have called the ‘tryptamine dimension’ have long suspected that the portals to inner and outer space may be one and the same.
Let that sink in for a bit, and lets all collectively put that into our pipes and smoke that.
I will leave it here for now, but I plan to keep this thread of thought going, and digging deeper because I have so much more to say on this subject. So keep Dreaming those Dreams, keep grinding away at reality, and together we can create the society/reality that we all know deep down inside we all deserve and should be.
But I would like to hear your thoughts, please comment below about interesting/weird dreams and any interesting resource that you might have. Below I have a list of some interesting things I found along the way.
